AutoTruthLens add-on is a complimentary extension for Truth Lens service.
It's main purpose is to provide trueness indication of web pages as commented by subject area experts.
The add-on places a small button on the top left corner of the webpage to provide the trueness indication every time you visit any webpage if such indication is available. Say the user is reading an online article about a medical topic. If any medical experts have commented about the webpage on some of the social media sites then the add-on button shows the number of medical experts that commented about the trueness of the webpage. When the user clicks on the button, the user is taken to Truth Lens service with links to the comments of the medical experts at the respective social media sites. The Truth Lens service independently verifies the expertise of all the experts whose comments and ratings are used. If no expert has yet commented about the trueness, the button offers the user an option to go to Truth Lens service and request experts to comment/rate the trueness of the web page. If the person reading the article is an expert, then the expert can use the button to visit the Truth Lens service and rate/comment on the trueness of the article. The user at any time can close the TruthLens button if it is obscuring any part of the web page.
For this purpose the add-on embeds the truthlens button on any web page where the web page does not obscure the truthlens button.
1. When a web page is loaded, the add-on sends the link/url to the web page to the Truth Lens service. If you do not want to have the link to the webpage sent to our servers without your explicit action, please use our "Truth Lens" add-on and not this add-on "Auto Truth Lens". This add-on helps people who want to avoid the extra button click to obtain the trueness indication.
2. The Truth Lens service returns data (in json form) about the number of experts that commented about the trueness of the article.
3. If the number of experts are more than zero, the number is displayed. If the number of experts is zero, the user is encouraged to request experts to rate the article. The user is also encouraged to rate the the article using their expertise if they have expertise in the topic of the article.
4. The version of the installed add-on is sent along with the link/url to the web page to check if a newer version of the add-on is available. If a newer version of the add-on is available, the user is advised to upgrade the add-on.
5. The article link/url can also be used to get more experts to rate the trueness of the article.
The add-on does not collect user logins, passwords, or any other information, except what is stated above.
No data other than the link/url to the web page and the version of the installed add-on is sent to a server without explicit user action after the add-on is installed. The link/url is needed to provide the trueness indication.
The add-on provides a way for https://truthlens.com site to track the version of add-on to advise the user the option to upgrade.
