It was a default feature of Firefox some years ago. But Mozilla had to remove it because it was abused by third party software to change the new tab page to adware pages without user consent. For that reason it's only possible for add-ons now.

It may have been updating firefox to 136.0.4. (spaces added to URL - review does not allow otherwise)

It was a feature in „vanilla Firefox“ in the past, but it was abused by bad players and therefore Mozilla was forced to remove the option. It was possible several years ago, but Mozilla had to take this option from Firefox because hijacking was a real problem at that time.
