What we collect
We collect account data (name, username, email, date of birth), profile content, recipe content, interaction events, and technical metadata needed to operate and secure ForkFeed. Date of birth is collected solely to verify that you meet our minimum age requirement of 13 years.
How we use data
We use data to provide product features, personalize discovery surfaces, secure accounts, improve reliability, and support analytics when consent is granted.
Retention and deletion
We retain account and content data while your account is active, and for limited periods required for legal, security, or operational reasons.
Sharing and processors
We use infrastructure and service providers to host and process data on our behalf. We do not sell personal data.
Cookies and preferences
ForkFeed uses strictly necessary cookies for core functionality and optional categories for analytics/marketing based on your consent. You can update preferences anytime from “Cookie preferences” in the footer.
Browser extensions
ForkFeed offers browser extensions for Chrome and Firefox ("ForkFeed Recipe Clipper") that let you save recipes from any website to your ForkFeed account with one click.
What the extensions do
When you click the extension on a recipe page, it reads structured recipe data (JSON-LD) from that page — including the recipe title, description, ingredients, steps, prep/cook times, servings, and images. If structured data is not available, the extension sends up to 50 KB of page text to our server for AI-assisted recipe extraction. The extracted recipe is presented in an editable form so you can review and adjust it before saving to your account.
What the extensions do not do
The extensions do not collect your browsing history, passwords, search queries, or any data from pages you do not actively choose to clip. They do not track which websites you visit or run in the background. Recipe scraping only occurs when you explicitly click the extension button.
Authentication
The extensions read your existing ForkFeed session cookie to verify you are signed in. No additional credentials are created or stored by the extensions. If you are not signed in to ForkFeed, the extension will prompt you to sign in on the website first.
Local storage
The extensions use your browser's session storage to temporarily hold scraped recipe data while you review and edit it. This data is not persisted to disk and is cleared when the browser session ends. No personal information is stored locally by the extensions.
Permissions
The extensions request access to the active tab (to read recipe content when you click the button), scripting (to extract recipe data from the page), cookies (to authenticate with your ForkFeed session), and storage (to temporarily hold scrape results). Host permissions are required to run the content script on recipe pages and communicate with the ForkFeed API.
Your rights
Depending on your region, you may have rights to access, delete, correct, or export your data. See Privacy Rights.
