von Henri, vor 2 JahrenAs a recent Chrome uBlock Origin refugee, I was looking for something that'd replace chrome's tab groups.
This add-on does a little bit of that, but differently, and in several ways better.
First off, you WILL want to customize your browser toolbar to put the add-on icon to the top left of the app, right before the tabs. It's a much more natural place to use it.
Second, if you're using dark mode, the default icon is hard to see, and you'll have to tweak a config to fix that. It's spelled out in the "about this extension" page.
Third, if you multi-screen, this is MUCH better than chrome tab groups, since it allows you to trivially move tab groups between windows, and therefore screens.
I like that it can sync the tab groups into a bookmark folder.
The default group icons are awkward, but you can replace them with the favicon of any tab within the group, which solves that.
I just installed this a couple hours ago so I'm still wrapping my head around it, but I like it already.
I've got 12 tab groups already. Just don't expect it to be a drop-in replacement for Chrome tab groups. Take the time to wrap your head around the mental model of this add-on, it's worth it.
*Edit, now with more gripes!:
A dozen tabs or so (about 8% of my tabs) get detached from their group on every Firefox restart, which means on every Firefox update for me. I don't know why. It's not the same tabs each time. I tweaked all the settings I could, didn't help. I have to reassign the stray tabs in their proper groups after a restart, which takes entire seconds.
I'm kinda hoping this is going to stop happening on a future update. If I was a little less lazy, I'd probably try to debug it myself.

It's likely a fact that these tab group extensions predate the firefox addition, but that isn't the point. They are essentially obsolete now and none of them that I've seen seem to add anything unique that firefox doesn't, and the built in seamlessness just works better anyway. These extensions (not limited to tab groups ext.) are populating the store, negatively impacting navigation experience and ext. search relevancy. A mild inconvenience to complain about, but a mild inconvenience to fix it too, so just do it. These extensions seem to be prevelant, and are even taking up the bulk of my mozilla "recommendations".

There is one thing that could be improved. It would be great if the native Firefox groups remained related to the tab group. When I switch groups using Simple Tab Groups, the Firefox groups disappear along with the tabs. It's like having tabs and groups within groups. - Bewertet mit 5 von 5 Sternenvon Hugo, vor 3 MonatenExactly what I have been looking for. I love that you can have multiple groups that share the same container. I use it to separate school subjects, but I want every school subject to be in the school container. I also like the automatic tab unloading feature that saves ram.
- Bewertet mit 3 von 5 Sternenvon PhilZSquid, vor 3 MonatenOne of the most confusing interfaces, and most unpredictable interactions of any add-on I've used to date.
I created 4 tab groups -- social media & news; payments & banking; messaging; shopping cart. I populated each with several url's that I go to frequently. I created each group in a separate window and then selected the set of tabs and created the group. So far so good.
The next day I come back, I'm on tab in my shopping cart group which I had open and then select the group social media, which I had closed the evening before. It opens in the shopping cart group. Worse, it empties out my social media group, which is now for some reason associated with the shopping cart. So I have to recreate the group on new window and remove them from the shopping cart. Why? I have no idea.
Worse, if I try to move the tabs from my shopping cart by putting them in my original social media group, it tells me the shopping cart group is closed. Why? I have no idea.
This add-on seems so simple, yet, none of the features makes sense in its implementation. This could be a great add-on if it had any consistency. I'm still using it, but every day I have to reset one or more of my tab groups, scratching my head each time.
Consistency. This is not... - Bewertet mit 5 von 5 Sternenvon Monimonika, vor 3 MonatenHave been using this addon for years. I currently have 1480 tabs across 28 groups (yes, I need to clean that up), but somehow this addon has not yet failed me. I do make occasional backups just in case. Great if going through sites with chapters/episodes that if saved via bookmark would become outdated. The management interface is easy to use, too.
- Bewertet mit 5 von 5 Sternenvon Kintak, vor 3 MonatenI love this addon and have been using it for years. It's very useful for a kleptomaniac power user like me who keeps hundreds of tabs and needs a way to sort them. STG has its own backup function as well, which has saved me a few times when Firefox bugs and fails to retain its state. I also get the impression STG helps avoid Firefox getting overwhelmed and degrading performance.
My only issue is that it currently has no compatibility with the new native Firefox tab group function, which prevents STG backups from saving Firefox groups. Hoping that comes in a future update! - Bewertet mit 5 von 5 Sternenvon Ali3n, vor 4 Monaten
