Über diese Erweiterung
The Vault Password Manager extension connects your browser to The Vault desktop application, enabling secure credential autofill on any website.
How It Works
The extension communicates with The Vault desktop app running on your computer through Firefox's Native Messaging API. Your passwords are never sent to any server, never cached in the browser, and never leave your device. Every credential request is fulfilled locally by your encrypted vault.
Features
• Automatic form detection: login forms are detected automatically, including dynamically loaded forms in single-page applications
• Inline autofill menu: click a detected login field to see matching credentials from your vault
• Smart URL matching: credentials are matched by exact URL, domain, base domain, and subdomain with confidence scoring
• Multi-step login support: handles two-page login flows (like Google and Microsoft) by carrying context between pages
• Password generation: generate strong passwords directly from the extension popup
• Save new credentials: save login credentials to your vault from the browser
• Popup credential browser: view and fill matching credentials from the extension toolbar icon
Requirements
This extension requires The Vault desktop application to be installed and running on Windows. The Vault is an open-source, offline-first password manager with AES-256-GCM encryption and optional encrypted Google Drive sync.

Privacy & Security
• Zero network activity: credentials travel only between the browser and your local Vault app
• No remote servers: no telemetry, no analytics, no cloud dependency
• No credential caching: passwords are used transiently during form fill and never stored in browser storage
• Content script isolation: runs in Firefox's isolated world, inaccessible to page JavaScript
• Open source: full source code available for audit
Permissions Explained
• nativeMessaging is required to communicate with The Vault desktop app on your computer
• activeTab is required to detect login forms and fill credentials on the current page
• storage is used to store non-sensitive extension preferences (not credentials)
