Privacy Policy for Web Tools Companion

This Privacy Policy describes how the Web Tools Companion ("the Extension") handles user data. Our primary goal is to provide a secure and automated experience for FEU students without compromising their privacy.

1. Data Collection and Usage
   The Extension does not collect, store, or transmit any user data to external servers. All data processing occurs locally within the user's browser.

The Extension accesses the following information for the sole purpose of automating the "Web Tools" visualizer:

Enrollment Data: Captured via network interception (XHR) and DOM scraping from authorized FEU portal domains.
Academic Information: Student schedules, course codes, and section names.
2. Data Storage and Hygiene
Local Storage: Extracted data is temporarily stored in the browser's chrome.storage.local memory.
Ephemeral Nature: This data is treated as temporary. The Extension utilizes an Acknowledgment (ACK) system; once the Web Tools confirms receipt of the data, the Extension immediately purges the corresponding information from local storage.
No Third-Party Access: No third parties have access to the data stored within the Extension.
3. Data Transfer
The Extension only transfers data to authorized Web Tools domains specified in the manifest (e.g., tools.kendavila.me). This transfer happens locally within the user's browser context via a secure messaging bridge. We do not sell or share this data with any third-party entities.

1. Permissions Justification
   Host Permissions: Required to automate data extraction from FEU portals and to establish a messaging bridge with the Web-Tools.
   Tabs/Scripting: Required to synchronize data between the portal and the visualizer in real-time and to bypass Content Security Policy (CSP) for data capture.

   We may update this policy from time to time. Any changes will be reflected in the "Last Updated" date at the top of this page.
