There was never a claim made that it fixes the results Youtube provides, the tool is to help filter and sort out the garbage. It still has to utilize the results YouTube gives you with your search.
To get better results out of the gate make sure you are using good search terms, like using quotations. But again, regardless of the search term; YouTube will still provide junk because that's what YouTube spits out. Harvesort is just collects all the results in a local database and is allowing you to filter based on the metadata avaliable. Its not actually checking the content for relevance of the results because that's not as easily done; mostly because YouTube does not readily provide this metadata.
It's still better then searching YouTube with their filters that actively inject shorts when you are searching videos, don't really sort in any given order that makes sense, or provides you a list of the same things over and over. Harvesort can find ALL the results of a search if you turn on 'unsafty' mode. You can find results of any given time period in YouTube's history. Good luck getting YouTube's base results to do that unless you know exactly what you are looking for.
I plan to at some point add a way to make sure what you are searching is actually related to the title of the video in some way. But that will introduce issues of its own still.
The tool may not be for you, but but it works for what it is, and 1 star is a choice related to your expectations. It sounds like your complaints are with what YouTube does natively already with your search results, not with filtering them.
Also, you don't specify what the 'simple function' you want is. Is it a replacement to 'sort by date'? If so then yeah, its overengineered for that. It kind of had to be because they outright removed the filter to do it. I will never claim this is a clean solution to that problem. But it does work to provide a solution.
