I did not do extensive testing on very large search results like you seem to be doing, so I can not be sure on the stability of the tool when making databases of that size. In truth it was meant for more targeted results (The original purpose was to restore the ability to find most recent results after all). So if your database is collecting 10-100k+ results, yeah I would expected it to slow down, as I didn't plan for that or try to do anything to help it use databases of size more efficiently.
Something I could do to help databases of this size is to actually outright REMOVE the options its filtering out so they are not in the database at all. This would probably be the easiest solution to help very large databases being built be more efficient. It also does not help that it loads EVERY option of the database on the page at once, rather then in chunks or pages right now either. This is another reason 'unsafty' is off by default. I will give it some consideration.
I'm not sure I understand what the issues you are having with shorts are though. Since you seem to have manually set up your settings, I assume you have them set appropriately to get shorts, so I'm not really sure what you mean is happening with that. Best advice I can give is make sure you don't have the filter for shorts on and are using 'mixed' mode if you are wanting to get videos and shorts in the same search.
My best advice is to try and make your searches a little bit more targeted if you can to keep the experience a bit smoother. Either with more targeted search terms (with required or excluded terms) or smaller time sizes. Also I would be cautious doing HUGE searches like that for fear of flagging Youtube to suspicious activity. A few hundred or thousands of results at a time is likely fine, but lots of searches getting tens of thousand or more using these methods might be something that starts getting flagged somehow. More as a precaution.
Even with all the issues you have had though I am happy you are getting some use out of the tool. I will likely update and modify it a bit, but that update is likely at least a month or two away. Unless there is something outright crippling the tool happening.
