posted 16 hours agoHi, thanks a lot for your rating. I am sorry, that the update has caused a notification prompt, which has been disturbing you. As far as I see you already researched and found our GitHub issue explaining what happened: https://github.com/rugk/awesome-emoji-picker/issues/171#issuecomment-3423634393
Technically, it is that the permission to access your “data on all your sites” has been there before, but only for the currently _active_ tab. Only now Firefox, surprisingly for me too, displays a prompt for that.
We are currently investigating how to deal with that issue, so I would ask for some time. It's still an open source project done by hobbyists. Rollback may be possible but could disturb users who already upgraded and there is no technical problem, after all. Also, for users who already upgraded this would not make a difference.
Anyway, I'd prefer to keep the discussion on the GitHub issue to constructively find a solution here.
The extension is fully open source, so one can verify that it respects user privacy and does not send data anywhere. You can do so yourself at https://github.com/rugk/awesome-emoji-picker.
This extension also adheres to a strict and short privacy policy, which you can read in detail on https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/awesome-emoji-picker/privacy/.
Furthermore, a detailed explanation of the permission this extension requests and why they are requested can be found on https://github.com/rugk/awesome-emoji-picker/blob/main/assets/texts/en/permissions.md.
I hope this explanation helps to explain the situation. Also note that you may, at any time, adjust your rating.

- Rated 1 out of 5by Firefox user 17275815, an hour agoEchoing other recent reviews, the updated permissions are suspicious. Uninstalling for now.
- Rated 1 out of 5by Firefox user 16069181, 17 hours agoThe permission change is suspicious (permissions for all data); if the developer is acting in good faith, they can revert this change and disable certain features while investigating whether alternative solutions exist. It seems that discussions on the GitHub issue may offer more reasonable approaches than granting such broad permissions for a simple emoji picker.
I uninstalled it for now. I’m a developer, but I don’t have the time to closely follow the development of this add-on, good as it may be. I’d rather keep an eye on other software that’s supposed to be more critical.
TLDR: lol nice try
Edit after the response: I will update my review once the permissions seem legitimate to me. If the problem is with the Firefox API, it may not be the developer's fault, although it's still unacceptable. Otherwise, the extension needs to be fixed.Developer response

posted 2 days agoHi, thanks a lot for your rating. I am sorry, that the update has caused a notification prompt, which has been disturbing you. However, I can reassure you: Technically, the permissions have not changed and the extension is perfectly fine.
What happened in more detail is that the permission to access your “data on all your sites” has been there before, but only for the currently _active_ tab. Only now Firefox, surprisingly for me too, displays a prompt for that. Thus, this has been there before and still is.
More details can be found here: https://github.com/rugk/awesome-emoji-picker/issues/171#issuecomment-3423634393
Unfortunately, that permission is required by Firefox in order to load a content script, to be able to insert emojis into the page and for the experimental emoji autocorrect feature.
Furthermore, a detailed explanation of the permission this extension requests and why they are requested can be found on https://github.com/rugk/awesome-emoji-picker/blob/main/assets/texts/en/permissions.md.

posted 2 days agoHi, thanks for your rating. It's great to hear that you like the add-on. 😀
Note that the just released version 3 of the extension now supports many new emojis and has been substantially reworked under the hood, so if you upgrade you should get your wanted emojis.
More information on the new version can be found here: https://github.com/rugk/awesome-emoji-picker/releases/tag/v3.0.1

rugk- Rated 4 out of 5by Firefox user 18854750, 8 months agoThis is a very useful and well-designed add-on.
Sometimes it doesn't work immediately when invoked using the hotkey (the symbol gets selected, but the window doesn't open), hence currently only four stars.Developer response

Feel free to report back by adjusting your voting if this worked.
If you are interested, there are things you can do to contribute to this project in various ways (even without coding skills), e.g. by translating the add-on. See https://github.com/rugk/awesome-emoji-picker/blob/master/CONTRIBUTING.md for details.

posted 2 years agoHi, thanks a lot for your rating. I see your point of not liking voting prompts.
I can reassure you the likelihood to see such a prompt is very low and e.g. only shown after you have used the extension sometime and not shown again if you have dismissed it once.
As this add-on is open-source, you can also check it's source code at https://github.com/rugk/awesome-emoji-picker/blob/main/src/common/modules/data/Tips.js to see more details, of you are interested.
Also notice there are other helpful tips that may occasionally been shown, but they are really kept to a minimum and many users do e.g. not know that they can help the add-on and support it by writing a review.
I am afraid this has disturbed you and want to apologise. If you have further issues or questions, feel free to ask or suggest a feature by opening an issue on https://github.com/rugk/awesome-emoji-picker/issues/. Thanks.
I hope this explanation helps to explain why it is done the way it is. As an independent add-on author I am always happy about good add-on ratings.
Best regards,
rugk
