FastStream Video Player by Andrew S

by Waifu Connoisseur, a year agoI was having trouble consistently streaming anime on my go-to anime website. The recent influx of traffic, along with the servers it used (on most websites) has said servers even more strained. Pretty much across the board on all anime streaming websites, it was looking bleak for me, and others were sharing this experience.
Tbh, I did not think this add-on would do much, but holt-moly it is a complete and utter game changer! Not only did it boost the buffering speed more than 10x over, it actually SHOWS the 'true' amount that has been buffered on the bar, like videos used to.
Years ago, buffering bars used to show the 'true' progress that had been made on the progress bar of whatever you were viewing (like a darker grey bar that proceeds past the, what is usually, red progress bar). However, as of recent years, this stopped functioning like it used to.
It would show the progress by about a minute, then halt, whether it was buffering further, or not.
This extention breathes new life into streaming, and I have no idea how it is not more popular. It shows the 'true' progress of the buffering on the 'play'/'progress' bar, and it is WAY faster.
A few tips I found out is that you can hide the progress bar so it isn't always there by triple-clicking the mouse on the window of what you are streaming. Another is that it is set to save & download what you are streaming into local storage. If you don't want storage being clogged up by numerous videos, turn this off in setting using the cog wheel in the player.
Finally, when you are wtahcing/streaming a video, this may seem obvious, but make sure to go into your extension list and turn on this extension, it'll be obvious when you do as the UI completely changes.
This is a full 5/5 stars from me, I legit made this account to review this add-on. Not only does it load videos uber-fast, but it has a vast amount of settings you can change, so it's exactly to your liking. I love all of the hot-key options. I have only just got this, so there are likely more wonderful additions to this add-on, but I simply haven't discovered them yet.
There is literally no reason not to get this as far as my logic goes, no more stagnant buffering on anime streaming websites, it's now a thing of the past. Of course, I'll update this review if anything changes.
The stagnant buffering was especially awful today, hence why I searched for something just like this.I saw "6x streaming speed" and took it with a grain of salt, but it exceeded my expectations. Truly a wonderful add-on. Kudos to the developers, and thank you for enhancing my straming experience online! :) 10/10!!! I must make a post and share this with others!

- Rated 5 out of 5by hats4dads, 6 days agoThis addon is amazing. Fast or slow internet, open a webpage with a video, press the button and you get the best video player with so many options. It is imperative to try with any streaming site, also great if you want to share your screen to a tv. Open Subtitle support is amazing, allowing me to watch Jackie Chan movies with actually good subs. Thank you!

- Rated 5 out of 5by amb101, 9 days agoI have a fast internet connection, but have regular buffering problems on various movie streaming sites (some sites worse than others), even in the latest Firefox 146. Tried all the about:config tweaks, disabling extensions, etc etc. but nothing worked. The problem was instantly resolved with this extension. It also instantly resolved a persistent audio sync problem, even in netflix. Lip sync is absolutely perfect now. Can't get it to work properly on youtube, or at least its buggy, and I couldn't be bothered figuring out why, because i never have problems streaming youtube videos, even at ridiculous speeds (I use youtube enhancer).
One recommendation: by default, fastStream is set to "predownload the entire video in the background if possible". I think this is overkill, the extension works so well, you can easily turn this option off, with this option off it preloads movies about 4-5 minutes ahead, which is more than enough. - Rated 5 out of 5by BeardedOrangutan, a month agoI love this addon, it's truly cream of the crop. I have iffy internet, I love the peace of mind knowing that I will be able to finish a video if I experience an outage.
There are also many other features that I've gotten lots of use out of, and the customizable hotkeys have made it easy to use. - Rated 5 out of 5by Silverhazer, a month agoWow... I normally don't write reviews, but this addon blows my mind. I was already happy with the streaming boost it delivers on every streaming site. But then I pressed the audio button... What the hell, a completely free, working equalizer.... Damn this thing delivers!

- Rated 5 out of 5by GAM, 2 months agoYou can't watch the series yet, except for the first episode. I'm sorry my very bad English
- Rated 4 out of 5by jaaama, 2 months agoYoutube keeps breaking it, but it's not the extension's fault. Still annoying, but works very well when it's fixed.

- Rated 5 out of 5by idolking, 2 months agoIt's been quite comfortable to use. However, there are quite a few times when it fails to load videos initially and requires several reloads before starting. If it doesn't play, adding a feature like automatic reloading would make it even more comfortable.

- Rated 1 out of 5by Firefox user 19534322, 3 months agoWarning. After having issues with the player filed a bug report. I did this as I wanted to aid the developer with fixing issues with the player as it is a free addon. However after jumping through hoops to assist Andrew, I have come to the conclusion that he is very incompetent, and lacking. This does not bode well for FastStream.
Developer response
posted 3 months agoDear Mr. Vorajee,
I sincerely apologize that you have had a negative experience with reporting your issue. However, as I have mentioned in your submitted bug report #413, your request for a fix is not possible because of the limitations of your browser/computer -- FastStream MUST evict the video buffer if your browser runs out of memory. When you seek backwards, the player will redownload the evicted parts as necessary. This is intended behavior. - Rated 2 out of 5by MrGoatsy, 3 months agoIt doesn't work with the addon Firefox Multi-Account Containers, the player loads underneath the default Youtube player.
- Rated 4 out of 5by Mephistopheles, 3 months agoSo far so good, my only real complaint is that it doesn't work well with another extension: Sponsorblock

- Rated 5 out of 5by Jare, 4 months agoIt works as advertised. The videos I've been trying to watch buffered endlessly, but not anymore.
