About this extension
Find discussions of the current URL on Reddit or Hacker News

Minimal, light-weight, open-source extension that finds Reddit or Hacker News threads of the current URL using Reddit's and Algolia public API. You can either initiate the search by clicking the extension button, or by having auto-search enabled, which automatically does the search in the background for every URL you visit.

Other features include:
- Do an exact or a fuzzy search
- Special YouTube handling: search by video ID to find all variations of YouTube links
- Ignore URL's query-string
- Sort results by score, # of comments, age, or subreddit
- Blacklist sites to exclude them from auto-search or whitelist to have the extension only auto-search on certain websitesAdeelH/find-on-reddit
- Cache results for a (configurable) amount of time to reduce network usage

Forked from AdeelH's wonderful extension for Chrome and JeffreyCA's Hacker News implementation.

This extension is essentially a complete rewrite of the frontend of AddelH's extension with a refactoring of the backend code to simplify and optimize some elements.

Changelog since AdeelH

  • Add support for Firefox.
  • Previously this was not possible as Firefox does not support the Sandbox entrypoint the extension used for templating.
  • Replaced JQuery, Bootstrap, and Handlebars with SolidJS and TailwindCSS.
  • Fetch Reddit and Hacker News posts simultaneously.
  • Replace local storage with session storage for cache.
  • Add option toggle between blacklist or whitelist for autoload.
  • Add option to choose which sources to search by default.
  • Add option to filter by source in the popup.
  • Reduce host permissions to just what is required for fetching from APIs.
  • Entering URLs is now done by individual inputs per entry rather than a textbox.
  • Make tabs permission optional and upon attemping to enable autoload user will be prompted for permission.
  • Autoload now only runs on http and https urls.
  • Use the WXT framework to speed up dev and improve DX.
