Malwarebytes Browser Guard by Malwarebytes

by Firefox user 18892832, 5 months agoWorks well for blocking spam and I've gotten a few warnings about certain sites. Some first time going and some I know to be legitimate, but that's how security goes. Still lets me go if I acknowledge the warning of course. The main issue is that some, though few, websites have loading issues. Mine specifically is my microsoft email through outlook/live.com When I go there I can't interact with much for a good 20 to 30 seconds. I've tried disabling the ad, spam and malware protections specifically for outlook/live.com email website and also disabling global protection of those features, but it still does the same. I specifically have to disable the "All protections" setting. So it seems like its still actively doing something even when i globally disable the 3 protections for all sites and only stops if I tick the option to disable all protections. I don't really care about that specifically, but just noting that seems to be why outlook/live email performance in the browser goes back to normally after disabling it. While I like the ad block feature enormously since it actually works, I don't want to disable the whole thing everytime i need to check my email so I'll just leave it off for now and circle back to it in a month or so to see if this issue is resolved with some kind of update. Been putting up with it for well over a year so its not a new thing. I just didn't think to leave a review about it until now. I would submit a report/ticket to malwares help center directly but it requires making an account and I just don't want yet another account. Hopefully they see this when checking reviews.
Edit: Actually it effects my google emails as well, just less so since the delay is one or two seconds I didn't notice as much though now that its instant its very noticable. The outlook one is basically instant when its disabled too just not as fast as google's email, but compared to the almost 30 second load time prior the difference is wild.
Edit2: March 30, 2025
I've updated to the 3.0.14 version and the huge delay in outlook email is gone! Bumping review to 5 stars since this removes the main issue I had with it.
Edit3: April 10, 2025
Updated to version 3.0.17 and a several seconds delay is happening now. Its a little better when I tell it to disable all protections for everything, but if I turn it off for only outlook then there is no difference so its still doing something again. If I disable the extention altogether then its based to instant speeds. Not sure what happened between the updates but its unfortunate. I'll try to install the 3.0.14 version and try to keep it from auto updating. Its also possible this is a firefox thing since it updates as well. So I'm not gonna just blame malwarebytes outright on this one.

We have an update pending approval by the Firefox team (v3.0.14), if after this release, you still see an issue it would be helpful if you could let us know please.

- Rated 3 out of 5by Merriska Carrier, a day agoNormally works very well, unfortunately even after the mid July patch it was still making watching Youtube incredibly sluggish and with pop ups so I've had to temporarily disable it.

- Rated 5 out of 5by SRF, 20 days agoExcellent add-on for safer browsing, without all the annoying bloat that other AV-providers implement in similar products.

- Rated 3 out of 5by Firefox user 16351663, 21 days agoI'm running the latest version of FireFox. This has warned me about entering two or three potentially malicious sites, but I get multiple occurences daily of pages virtually freezing and a warning pop-up that the plugin is slowing FF down. I've therefore disabled it for now. When I next remember, I'll give it another try to see if the issue (if there is one) has been addressed.
Edit: VERY impressed by the speed of Malwarebytes' response! Have added a diary reminder to turn it back on in a week's time to see if the fix has been implemented. In the meantime, I'll try very hard not to visit sites I shouldn't. :-)Developer response

This should resolve the issue. - Rated 3 out of 5by Firefox user 18201410, 22 days agoThis extensions been good for quite some time now, but recently, due to the bug that's been slowing down my browser, it's starting to get unbearable, I upload content on YouTube and browse the internet, and constantly getting a popup from my browser that its being slown down for long periods of time every 5 - 10 minutes is pretty annoying.
Until this bug's fixed, I do not recommend this extension to anyone, despite how good its features are.Developer response

I am using Firefox, and lately I have been getting the error message that Malwarebytes Browser Guard is slowing down my browser and that I should consider removing it. Not good.

- Rated 2 out of 5by TheGuiltyJoker, 25 days agoI've been using this for a few months now, and I love that it blocks and alerts me to unsafe websites.
However, recently I've been getting alerts from FireFox telling me that this addon is slowing down the browser.
I have no idea why this is happening as I haven't changed anything, so I don't know if it's an update that has caused it, but it needs to be investigated otherwise it's likely people could disable the addon.Developer response
