How can I find the directory where the files are saved by default?

Files are saved in the Downloads folder by default. The path can be changed in about:preferences.

How do you make it so it asks you where to save it everytime?

This should be possible by enabling 'File name > open the "Save as" dialog to confirm the file name' or by disabling 'Misc. > save pages in background' in the options page of SingleFile.

This functionality should be provided by browsers as a default. They don't, so this app fills the gap.
