TWP - Translate Web Pages by Filipe Dev

by Firefox user 16792305, 3 years agoEverything was fine until recently, the add-on started opening a new window with some DeepL add-on (no idea what's that) when I select a word and press Ctrl (to copy-paste it). Annoying, impossible to work. There is no such a shortcut in the settings, no idea how to fix it. Had to turn the add-on off.

posted 3 years agoWhen you set DeepL to translate the selected text, the DeepL website opens in a new window the first time you translate the selected text, if you keep the window open the next texts will be translated without changing tabs.
And in the extension settings there is an option to translate the selected text by pressing Ctrl twice, if you press Ctrl only once and this window is opening your keyboard may have a double click or something unusual is happening.

Yandex works but is worse than other options. Using DeepL just opens a new tab and pushes your text over to the new tab which I can do myself with copy paste. DeepL won't let you translate a whole webpage for free, only text snippets. DeepL is poor at names, idioms, titles, and short bits of text but really good at longer form texts.
This is a nice extension with good customization hindered by poor translation tools. For my purposes its better just to use something simpler.
