Terms of Service - Deepfake Detector (Last Updated: October 15, 2024)Please read these terms of service carefully before you install or use the Deepfake Detector by Fakespot (“the Service”). These Terms are a binding legal agreement that covers your use of the Service.The Service is owned, licensed, and operated by Mozilla Corporation (which we refer to as "we," "us," "our," or "Mozilla").
- The Services
- Deepfake Detector is an artificial intelligence (AI) tool to help you analyze whether or not text you want to check is likely to have been AI generated (“The Service”). Neither the text content you analyze, nor your personal information are used to train the model. The Services are provided solely for use according to these Terms.
- Using the Services You must be at least eighteen (18) years of age to use the Services. You give Mozilla all rights necessary to operate the Services, including processing any personal data as described in our Privacy Notice, as well as the content of the text you send us to be analyzed. You will comply with Mozilla’s Acceptable Use Policy as well as the other policies referenced in these Terms. You agree that you will not use the Services to violate any laws in the jurisdiction where you are based. You may not use the Services if you are barred under any Office of Foreign Assets Control Specially Designated Nationals List or face any other similar prohibition in any other applicable jurisdiction.
- Term; Termination These Terms will continue to apply until ended by either you or Mozilla. You can choose to end them at any time for any reason by stopping your use of the Services and uninstalling the Add-on. We may suspend or terminate your access to the Services at any time for any reason, including, but not limited to if we reasonably believe: (i) you have violated these Terms, the Acceptable Use Policy, or another relevant policy; (ii) your use of the product creates risk or legal exposure for us; or (iii) our provision of the Services to you is no longer commercially viable. In all such cases, these Terms shall terminate, except that the following sections shall continue to apply: Communications and Content, Mozilla’s Intellectual Property, Indemnification, Disclaimer & Limitation of Liability, Choice of Law & Jurisdiction.
- Deepfake Detector is an artificial intelligence (AI) tool to help you analyze whether or not text you want to check is likely to have been AI generated (“The Service”). Neither the text content you analyze, nor your personal information are used to train the model. The Services are provided solely for use according to these Terms.
- Privacy
- We process information we receive through the Services as described in our Privacy Notice, which is hereby incorporated by reference.
- Communications
- By using the Services, we may reach out to you regarding your use of the Services, your content, or other feedback you submit to us. Any ideas, suggestions, or feedback that you provide about the Services may be used by Mozilla for free, without any additional obligations.
- Content
- By using the Services, you represent that you will only share material (including text you send us for analysis) that you own and/or have the legal right to share and sublicense to others, including without limitation, content and data contained in any web-page shared through the Services. When you submit your own content through the Services, you continue to own the rights to that content. You grant Mozilla a worldwide, royalty-free, perpetual, irrevocable, non-exclusive, transferable license to use, copy, modify, adapt, sub-license, prepare derivative works from, distribute, perform, and display the Inputs for the purpose of operating the Services.
- Content You Share By using the Services, you represent that you will only share material (including text you send us for analysis) that you own and/or have the legal right to share and sublicense to others, including without limitation, content and data contained in any web-page shared through the Services. When you submit your own content through the Services, you continue to own the rights to that content. You grant Mozilla a worldwide, royalty-free, perpetual, irrevocable, non-exclusive, transferable license to use, copy, modify, adapt, sub-license, prepare derivative works from, distribute, perform, and display the Inputs for the purpose of operating the Services.
- Use of AI Outputs Outputs generated through the Services may contain inaccuracies. You are responsible for: (i) your own use of the evaluations from the Service and determining whether the evaluations accurately reflect the whether it is likely to be AI generated; and (ii) for any consequences of your misuse of the evaluations. Your right to use the evaluations may not apply to information or material that is added to or that results from an AI-based summary or answer. The evaluations do not reflect Mozilla’s views and Mozilla makes no representations about the quality or usefulness of the evaluations, or their efficacy in obtaining a particular result.
- By using the Services, you represent that you will only share material (including text you send us for analysis) that you own and/or have the legal right to share and sublicense to others, including without limitation, content and data contained in any web-page shared through the Services. - Mozilla’s Intellectual Property
- Mozilla does not grant you any intellectual property rights in the Services or other Mozilla products and services unless these Terms specifically say otherwise. For example, these Terms do not provide the right to use any of Mozilla’s copyrights, trade names, trademarks, service marks, logos, domain names, or other distinctive brand features.
- Services Interruption
- Deepfake Detector is an evolving product. We plan to continue to develop and change it over time. In some cases, we might have to temporarily suspend or limit Services without providing notice. You will not be entitled to claim expenses or damages for such suspension or limitation.
- Indemnification
- You agree to defend, indemnify and hold harmless Mozilla, and its respective parent and affiliate companies, contractors, contributors, licensors, partners, directors, officers, employees and agents (“Indemnified Parties”) from and against any and all third party claims and expenses, including attorneys’ fees, arising out of or related to your use of the Services. This includes, but is not limited to, claims and expenses arising from any of the content shared by you.
- Disclaimer & Limitation of Liability
- Mozilla offers the Services “as is.” Neither Mozilla nor its Indemnified Parties represent or warrant that the Services or the platform are suitable for any particular purpose, or that they are free of defects or problems. To the extent permitted by law, Mozilla and the Indemnified Parties Disclaim all warranties, express or implied. Any tool or service that you select for a particular purpose is selected at your own risk, including the risk that your content could be deleted or corrupted, or that the Services might fail to meet your specific needs or to perform at the level you desire. Some jurisdictions do not allow the exclusion or limitation of implied warranties, so this disclaimer may not apply to you. Except as required by law, Mozilla will not be liable for any indirect, special, incidental, consequential, or exemplary damages arising out of or in any way relating to these Terms or from your use of or loss of access to the Services. Risks may include loss of goodwill, work stoppage, lost profits, loss of data, computer failure or malfunction, and other damages, for which Mozilla will not be responsible (even if advised of the possibility of such damages), under any legal theory (tort, contract or otherwise). The collective liability of Mozilla and the Indemnified Parties under this agreement will not exceed $500 (five hundred dollars). Some jurisdictions do not allow the exclusion or limitation of incidental, consequential, or special damages, so this exclusion and limitation may not apply to you.
- Modification of These Terms
- Mozilla may update these Terms from time to time, and will post the updated Terms online. Where changes are substantive, we will notify you via email, in public announcements, or through the Services. To better enable you to track changes, we will post an effective date at the top of this page.
- Choice of Law & Jurisdiction
- These Terms will be interpreted and enforced in accordance with California state law, excluding its conflict of law provisions. If any portion of these Terms is held to be invalid or unenforceable, the remaining portions will remain in full force and effect. In the event of a conflict between a translated version of these terms and the English language version, the English language version shall control.

- Deepfake Detector is an artificial intelligence (AI) tool to help you analyze whether or not text you want to check is likely to have been AI generated (“The Service”). This Privacy Notice explains what information Deepfake Detector by Fakespot collects, shares, and otherwise processes, and why. The Service is owned, licensed, and operated by Mozilla Corporation (which we refer to as "we," "us," "our," or "Mozilla").
- We collect the following information directly from you when you use the Service:
- The text you check. When you evaluate whether text is likely to have been AI generated, we receive that text solely for the purpose of evaluating it and sending you the results. The Service is powered by AI models created by Mozilla and by third-parties. However, we do not share the text you send for evaluation with any third parties. The text you evaluate stays within Mozilla.
- Communications. If you contact us in connection with the Service or provide feedback, we may also collect personal information, such as your name or email address, as well as any other personal information you choose to provide to us.
- We also receive certain information when you interact with the Service if you’ve allowed us to process it:
- Technical data. We receive basic data about your use of the Service, which we use to improve the performance, stability, and security of the Service. This includes information about your device, including hardware configuration and device operating system; browser information, such as browser type and settings; log files and usage data; and event information, such as errors or crashes.
- We use third parties to provide the Service to you, and have contracted with these companies requiring them to protect your information (Third-Party Services):
- Google Cloud Platform. Google Cloud Platform (GCP) is a cloud-computing platform. We use GCP to manage services that facilitate responses to user prompts and page summarization.
- Sentry. We use Sentry for Application Performance Monitoring (APM) and error collection to help improve the quality of the Service. If you opt into additional data collection for error monitoring and performance tracking, we share URL information with Sentry so we can track and fix where issues occur.
- The Service is not directed to children under 18 years of age, and we do not knowingly collect or solicit personal information from children. If the Service unknowingly collects personal information from a child under the age of 18 without parental consent, we will delete that information as soon as possible, unless we have a legal obligation to keep it. If you are a parent or guardian and believe your child has uploaded personal information to our site without your consent, you may contact us as described in “How to Contact Us” below.
- These regions have data protection laws that require us to specify the following:
- Our Privacy Notice describes the purposes for which we process information about you and the categories of information we process. We do not sell personal data.
- Our lawful bases for collecting and processing personal information include:
- Performing our contract with you. Using the Service requires your agreement to the Terms of Service. To provide the services described, we need the content you are asking the Service to summarize or query, and certain technical data, as further described in this Privacy Notice.
- Legitimate interests. As described in this Privacy Notice, we may receive technical and interaction data of users, which may include IP addresses, and certain metrics to improve the security and reliability of our services, prevent fraud and abuse, log and address technical problems, and enforce our Terms of Service and Content Policies.
- Consent. Where we ask for your consent to process your information–such as certain technical and interaction information and feedback you send us–you can always withdraw this consent.
- The following rights are granted by certain laws such as the General Data Protection Regulation (“GDPR”) in the EU and the California Consumer Privacy Act (“CCPA”) in California:
- The right to know what personal data is collected
- The right to know if personal data is being shared, and with whom
- The right to access your personal data
- The right to exercise your privacy rights without being discriminated against
