- Rated 5 out of 5by DBR, 8 years agoWas tired of part or all of aniweather being broken all the time so I decided to look for something new. Saw a suggestion to try Forecast fox & I couldn't be happier. Love the look, layout & multitude of options, although I only changed two the location & Icons because I liked the defaults on all the others. Keep up the good work I love this add-on. :-)
- Rated 5 out of 5by ononoma, 8 years agoDear Developer,
Thanks for all your hard work. This extension has been great!
As Mozilla seems to be making future development/updates of really great extensions “precarious” I wanted to find out if this update will be problematic or breakdown in the future? In other words should I stay where I’m at?
I’m currently using ver. 2.48. Everything is working, including location. I’ve disabled auto updates because new FF compliance's have already broken a few extensions (or will cause breakdown in the future). The first example of this coming to mind is/was X-Notifier. The last two versions are FF compliant, but don’t function. They…. suck. Not the developers fault, he warned months ago this would happen with Moz changing policies and updates. Yet everyone initially screamed at him when it broke down. There was a temporarily a work around, rolling back 2 versions. This made everything work again, but then with another FF update, even the legacy version only partly works.
So In regards to your extension, would you recommend updating to the latest version, or stay with the previous one which I’m running?
My Machine; Window 7 64 bit, latest FF 64 bit version for windows.
One more issue, and if you don’t have time for this one no problem.
I’ve read that if users install FF 52 ESR (I’m not sure what it is and if it’s secure), all legacy versions will work. Wouldn’t using a legacy version of FF, as well as extension present a security risk?
This really sucks for FF developers and users. I really hate Chrome, it’s heavy on resources, super proprietary, nosy and intrusive as hell. I have no idea why Moz is killing the best part of FF, the extensions. Especially security and utilities extensions. The other stuff I could care less.
Also, if Moz is going to make life difficult to impossible (depending on which developer you’re talking to, and their extension) for developers, why don’t you all go to Opera? I’m betting a lot of people would follow.
It’s my second choice browser, and although it’s Chromium based, it’s lightweight and even has a VPN built in. But they have mostly lame apps.
You’re opinion/feedback on this whole Moz turning FF into Chrome and how to proceed would be appreciated!
Thanks for every thing!Developer response

So I recommend that you upgrade to the latest version - Rated 5 out of 5by Kelly, 8 years agoThanks for a fine addon. They should rename Aniweather to brokenbuggyweather
- Rated 5 out of 5by Ronifae, 8 years agoAlthough I was unhappy with the removal of the status bar option, I knew there was one more option I could try. So I moved the Forecastfox icon to the sidebar. It is still handy although not as visually accessible as having it laid out on bottom of my window.
Today I installed the latest iteration and now I have not only the sun icon in the sidebar but an umbrella at the lower right of my window.
I don't want the umbrella as the sidebar option gives me all I need with the same effort. How do I get rid of it???
ETA: Thanks, Olesandr. That did the trick. Upgrading my rating.Developer response

Forecastfox - Settings - Weather forecast bar: Show? - No - Rated 5 out of 5by MelTorefas, 8 years agoUpdating my review to 5 stars. The dev replied and explained the decision to move away from the old version of the addon. Additionally the new version now has the extended forecast when you click on it, which is great. I really like where it is going, thanks for the hard work!
- Rated 5 out of 5by Firefox user 13091063, 8 years agoIt is OK for now, but the radar should be displayed in native resolution. It looks terrible now.
Of course, you should resize/rearrange the other divs to keep everything within the 800x600 no-scrollbar limit.
Also, when the addon updates, it resets all the location to NY. I relied on your addon and the weather/temperature indicated had nothing to do with the reality of my location :)
Another potential improvement: currently there is no way to distinguish between weather alerts and connection failed, both display the temperature in red. You may consider using a different shape or different color altogether.Developer response

Living in Kansas, sometimes it is crucial to have weather at our fingertips and Forecastfox does that for us!!! Is there any way to move it back to the top of my page?

- Rated 5 out of 5by MacGivre, 8 years agoMon extension de Firefox est de retour !
- Rated 5 out of 5by Roger Dodger, 8 years agoGreat add-on - up to Version 2.4.8 when combined with The Addon Bar (restored)
If you want to keep addon behavior as before:
1. Install The Addon Bar (restored) from following location -
https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/user/GiT/
2. Install ForecastFox (fixed) Version 2.4.8 from following location -
https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/forecastfox-fix-version/versions/
3. Go to Tools - Addons - Extentions - Forecastfox (fix version) - More - and set automatic update to Off
As noted in previous review, chill out & please don't blame developer for changes made by FF developers.Developer response

http://forums.mozillazine.org/viewtopic.php?p=14748275#p14748275 - Rated 5 out of 5by Firefox user 13034262, 8 years agoForecastfox is a GREAT add-in. I get a week's worth of weather info at a glance - always there, always updated.
However, I have no good things to say about Firefox development which seems to want to trash Forecastfox every couple of updates. I stopped updating Firefox for a while because it kept killing off Forecastfox. Now, it's done it again.
Why would Firefox deliberately keep kicking its most popular add-ins into the dumpster? I got onboard with Firefox at Version 1.5, but I'm looking for a better alternative now.Developer response

He has heard every nasty complaint and addressed each one with a flexible, totally functional add-on that not only made me feel glad to have donated, but is sending me back to RE-donating! Thank you for all of this work!
PRECEDING REVIEW (which was called "almost there"):
As of this new version, I can move the icon to the Add-on bar, but this requires installing the extension "New Add-on Bar" -- which I hope will continue to work in future versions of Firefox.
The only issue is that it is only available as a pop-up, not as a strip of multiple days. That strip was really useful.
BTW, I contributed to this developer, and he is responsive -- so I encourage others to do so as well.Developer response

The developer has always responded very quickly to problems and queries. Hope he manages to restore the functionality lost due to forthcoming Mozilla changes.
- Rated 5 out of 5by bruceb, 8 years agoThe developer is working on fixing the UI to something better or closer to the original version. Which 2.4.8 still works just fine.

http://www.s3blog.org/forecastfox.html - Rated 5 out of 5by Firefox user 13024827, 8 years agoRecently, this add-on, which WAS wonderful and did exactly what I wanted it to do, changed.
In researching the issue, I discovered that the developer, Alexander (Oleksandr) Popov lives in Kyiv. In March of 2022, he posted a response to a Google conversations regarding Forecastfox that due to the Russian invasion of Ukraine, he's no longer able to lead the development of his addons.
"Oleksandr Popov

to forecastfox-users
I'm creator. I'm from Ukraine, Kyiv. Not Russia!!!!!
I can not now lead the development of extension, because there is a war in my country.
Sorry!"
This probably explains why this addon isn't working anymore. Some recent changes in the the URL's for the weather services his addon links to are the likely reason for the disruption. And this assumes he's still alive.
Personally, I'll look for an alternative for a while, but I won't uninstall it. I wish him and his fellow countrymen and women well.Developer response

I can see any cloud cover and the temperature right away. Also, the five day forecast, radar, precipitation, and what it feels like are all just one click away!
