About this extension
Kimai is a free, open-source time tracking application that replaces expensive SaaS services like Toggl, Harvest, or Clockify. It's self-hosted, giving you full control over your data.
This browser extension brings Kimai time tracking directly into your workflow:
GitLab Integration — A Play/Stop button is injected right into every GitLab issue page. Click it, select a project and activity, and start tracking — without ever leaving your issue. The description is automatically filled with the issue number and title.
Popup Timer — Click the extension icon on any page to start/stop timers. Project search with autocomplete, activity selection, and automatic description pre-fill from the current page title.
Multi-Account Support — Connect up to 3 Kimai instances and switch between them instantly using tabs. Only one timer can run at a time across all accounts — starting a new timer automatically stops any running timer on other accounts.
Features:
Start/stop timer from GitLab issues or the extension popup
Project autocomplete with Customer / Project display
One-click restart from recent entries history
Supports GitLab 15–18+ (including Work Items)
Supports multiple self-hosted GitLab instances
Optional: automatically append issue URL to time entry description
Works with any self-hosted Kimai v2 instance
No data collection — everything stays in your browser
Requirements:
A self-hosted Kimai v2 instance with API access
A Kimai API token (generate in Kimai → Profile → API Tokens)
