Privacy policy for Image Translator (OCR)
The extension declares the websiteContent data collection permission
in its manifest (Firefox built-in data consent system, required as of
November 2025). This covers the data the extension transmits to perform
its core functions:
- Image bytes you choose to translate are sent to Google's Lens OCR
service (lensfrontend-pa.googleapis.com) when you right-click an image
and select "Translate." - Text you choose to translate is sent to Google's translation service
(translate.googleapis.com) when you right-click selected text, click
the selection icon, or when image OCR results are translated.
These calls use Google's public, unauthenticated endpoints — the same
endpoints used by Google's own products and several other open-source
extensions (e.g. simple-translate). Google may log these requests as
documented in their privacy policy.
The extension does NOT collect:
- Personally identifying information
- Browsing activity
- Search terms (other than what you explicitly select for translation)
- Technical or interaction telemetry
- Bookmarks, history, or any other Firefox data
All preferences (target language, selection-icon toggle) are stored
locally via
browser.storage.local. There is no analytics, no telemetry,no remote configuration. The extension only contacts third-party services
when the user explicitly invokes a translation.
