- Rated 4 out of 5by Firefox user 14785857, 6 years agoI'm enjoying using the reader and I'm using Zira for the voice, but I can't increase the reading Rate. I'd like Zira to read faster but the Rate setting slider doesn't move. Is there anything I can do to fix that?

- Rated 2 out of 5by shasta, 6 years agoWell I finally figured it out. First, why the heck are there no directions in any place that any logical person would look. Second, the Save button ? Doesn't work as far as I can tell but maybe it works but you have to run your head and turn 10 times counterclockwise but with no directions there's no way to know what it's intended use is. Third, I have it working but I can only get Zira to work. I have all English voices downloaded including British ones. No clue how to make it do the other voices. I know this is done as a labor of love but why publish it only to frustrate the hordes. *sigh*

Have you updated this addon yet?......
----- Aaaa!!! Now I just saw this Line in your description: <<<< IF YOU ARE ON FF56 or Waterfox download the old version 0.5.3 >>>
You should write it with capital and bold Letters for people to see it.
--- But hey, it says that this version 0.5.3 is not compatible with my New firefox.
Anyway, I am going to uninstall it. You lost my time trying to figure this out alone. If you fix the version in the future, I might install it again. For now I am going to try other similar Addons. - Rated 3 out of 5by Felipe, 7 years agoWorks very well, but when the text is called the pause button does not respond, a bit annoying but definitely tolerable, a great plugin in total!

- Rated 1 out of 5by Firefox user 12712958, 7 years agoI cannot find the options or any way to turn it on or off
- Rated 4 out of 5by Mousey Mo, 7 years agoI want to start off by saying I use this app a lot. I really like it, but it's gone buggy. I have to do a lot of reading all the time (college student) I this has the most consistently working speech rate function, but occasionally, and I have no idea why, I'll go to use it and the speech rate is back to where it defaults and I can't get it back where I want it. This leaves me stuck taking a lot longer to read everything. I'm not sure if I'm doing something wrong, or if it's an issue with the add on or the browser. I really don't want to find a new one, because I'm used to this one.
Additionally, is there any way to make it read an entire article without having to select it first? I have to use a different program for that right now, and I HATE that one because when I try to speed it up, the speech rate is very inconsistent.Developer response
posted 7 years agosorry man .. i know what you mean and it didnt happen in the old version .. mozillas implementation of the webspeech engine is still changing from version to version ... and i cannot implement reading a whole site becasue it would read out all the links and otehr useless stuff , there no way to bring consistancy over the many websites that exist - Rated 2 out of 5by bodwyn, 7 years agoWin 10, FF67. Once I figured out to right-click selected text, I can get it to work, and it uses my chosen system voice, but the option to change speed doesn't work (same for pitch and volume).

- Rated 5 out of 5by Firefox user 13895579, 7 years agoAs a doctorate student, I use this extension to read the one billion articles I need to read for my studies.
- Rated 4 out of 5by Firefox user 13774846, 7 years agoBest TTS add-on, yes, but a few suggestions:
1. All voices starting as disabled took a bit to figure out, especially with the unresponsive save button, I wasn't sure if it was doing anything. I suspect this might be why it did 'not work' for some.
2. Reading an academic pdf still took close to 3 minutes for a single page, on the fastest setting. For a 20-page article, that's close to an hour. Would highly appreciate an increased upper limit.
Otherwise, terrific add-on. No hangups, no pauses between lines, and customization!
Edit: Which voice? I was using the Microsoft Hazel (British English) voice. The US voices (David & Zira) seemed a little faster.Developer response
posted 7 years agowhich voice? on fastest setting they should be so fast you cant understand it anymore
edit: i can only send the speed value to the system speech settings , every voice is different , some 3rd party voice dont even support pitch and speed and it gets ignore but english microsoft voices david and zira should sound like smurfs on acid when cranking up the speed and pitch XD - Rated 5 out of 5by Firefox user 13639815, 7 years agoThis extension is exactly what I needed. I needed something to read selected text off websites that I had a hard time reading, I tried the Windows 10 voice thing but it was so unruly and annoying - announcing everything my mouse went over when I just needed it to dictate selected text (Im not completely blind) - Windows failed. I found this extension and it does exactly that! Perfectly!
This should be a built in feature in browsers today, but thankfully we have this add-on extension.
After installing the add-on make sure you put a check next to the built in voices. Now I just need to find some better voices...Developer response
posted 7 years agocortana from windows 10 is probably the best voice , i tried 3rd party libraries but they all fall short of microsofts own voices - Rated 4 out of 5by Firefox user 13759898, 7 years agoEasy to install and use.
I just have a small request.
Is it possible to associate a "speak key" shortcut?
I have a partial visual impairement and was used to
utilize another plugin in an older version of Firefox,
that is not available on this latest version. And that
plugin had a configurable start/stop speech key shortcut.
That made my work a lot easier, because a i need ir for
almost every text i need to read. - Rated 1 out of 5by Firefox user 13741319, 7 years ago

Windows 10 and FF - all newest with all updates.
