  • Latest version

    Version 1.6.4

    Released Jun 13, 2025 - 153.86 KB
Works with firefox 138.0 and later
    🆕 New in version 1.6.4

    • Improved reliability: source tab is now determined using a snapshot + history fallback algorithm, ensuring tabs are always grouped correctly — even in rare race conditions.
    • Fixed issue with the 1-second delay mode sometimes failing to group.
    • Updated the cancel shortcut to Ctrl+Shift+U (Windows/Linux) or Alt+Shift+U (macOS), to comply with Firefox shortcut rules.
    • The cancel shortcut is now only active during the 1-second window and then automatically released — no interference with your system or other shortcuts.

    Version 1.6.3

    Released Jun 13, 2025 - 153.72 KB
Works with firefox 138.0 and later
    🆕 New in version 1.6.3

    • New “1-second delay” mode: after opening a tab, you now have 1 second to cancel auto-grouping.
    • Press Ctrl+G (or ⌘+G on Mac) during that second to keep the tab where it opened.
    • The shortcut is only active during the 1-second window and then automatically disabled, so it won’t interfere with Spotlight, scrolling, or other system behavior.
    • You can change or disable this behavior from the extension settings.

✅ Improved reliability: grouping is now guaranteed to work even when the tab becomes active before grouping is executed.
Thanks again to Firefox user 17957929 for the inspiration!

  • Version 1.6.1

    Released Jun 12, 2025 - 153.81 KB
Works with firefox 138.0 and later
    🆕 New in version 1.6.1:

    • Added optional 1-second delay before a new tab is automatically grouped.
    • During that second, you can cancel the grouping using a keyboard shortcut.
    • Default shortcut: Ctrl+Space (Windows/Linux) or ⌘+Space (macOS).
    • The shortcut is active only during that second and immediately deactivated after — so it won’t interfere with Spotlight, scrolling, or other system behavior.
    • You can change the shortcut or disable the delay in the extension’s settings.

Thanks to Firefox user 17957929 for the feedback that inspired this update!

New Tab Same Group - Version 1.3.0

We're pumped to bring you more flexibility with version 1.3.0!

✨ NEW: Open Standard New Tabs with a Shortcut!
You can now open a new tab in the standard Firefox way (ungrouped, just like Firefox would open it by default) using a handy keyboard shortcut.
    * Default shortcut: Alt+Shift+T
    * This feature is great for when you occasionally want a new tab to be outside of your current group.
    * You can enable or disable this shortcut in the extension's options.

As always, regular new tabs (Ctrl+T or the new tab button) will continue to be grouped according to your main extension settings.

Thanks for using New Tab Same Group! We hope you enjoy the new level of control.
