- Rated 1 out of 5by Drini, 4 years agoThe permissions for this app look too broad; you only need activeTab permissions, not access to every website. I can only assume this app is doing something creepy under the hood.
For proof these permissions aren't needed, here's an extension that does the same sort of thing: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/plussub/ . It's not as polished, but the core experience is the same, and it doesn't request all these permissions.Developer response
posted 3 years agoHey! No creepy stuff under the hood :) Substital for Firefox was manually reviewed multiple times by persons from the Mozilla Firefox Add-ons team. It's a pre-requisite to be published here in the store. If there would be creepy stuff under the hood, it would not be published.
About the permissions, we're happy to clear that out for you. The other extension you mentioned is different in many ways. It does not work the same way as Substital and does not have the features that Substital provides. (as you said, it's not that polished). No, Substital cannot work with only the activeTab permission. The reasons is that we inject elements in the page that need broader permissions to be able to work, like for example the area where users can search for subtitles.
To be noted, other popular extensions such as AdBlock or Grammarly also use broader permissions such as "Access your data for all websites".
Hope that helps! :) We plan to add soon a better detailed description why these permissions are needed. Thanks for your feedback! - Rated 4 out of 5by Firefox user 12972174, 4 years agoNice work.
I would really like, if you would add an option to "invert" subtitle delay +/-. In all other programs and addons user set delay of the srt file (+ means add time of srt timestamp, here is opposite).
Sorry for my bad English, I hope you understand.Developer response

- Rated 4 out of 5by Firefox user 16286088, 4 years agoLinux Firefox Netflix: Tested briefly and seemed to work OK. When Netflix does not have English I usually use different streaming service because Netflix shows have parts of scenes removed making timing a problem. I time the subtitles with a subtitle editor. (New problem) The page shows the subtitle that Netflix has. It does not show the place to supply your own subtitle button. By clicking on the Netflix Subtitle I found the place to put my subtitle file. That should be on the screen explicitly. For hours I thought it did not work.

- Rated 4 out of 5by Vintotal, 4 years agoFonctionne de façon intermittente avec Netflix. Parfois tout est parfait, parfois les sous-titres sont affichés mais avec un décalage difficile à contrôler. Il arrive qu'ils ne sont pas affichés du tout.
- Rated 1 out of 5by StinkyAnchovy, 4 years agoThis add-on creates a "double screen" on voe . sx and simply stops the video from loading on dood . watch. The times I got it to work on another website, it was great but these two are my go-to websites so I can't rate this add-on 5 stars.

+Sub does not request "Access your data for all your websites": https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/plussub/Developer response
posted 4 years agoHey sure! :) We need to grant Substital access to all the websites since we are injecting scripts that are needed for the basic functionalities of the extension. It is needed for example for the settings menu for the subtitles in the video controls, and for the area that pops up inside the video and that allows users to search for their subtitles. - Rated 5 out of 5by Michal, 4 years agoReally good program ... this program safe my live ... i hope its coming soon support for Disney +

- Rated 4 out of 5by JonTo, 5 years agoI love how seamless it is to add any srt file I want. Thank you so much for this! One suggestion if it's alright -- When I add subtitles to YouTube/Vimeo & other integrated sites, the subtitle text is selectable. However, on on other sites like Funimation, it isn't. I wish I could select the text on any site so when I add Japanese subtitles to some Funimation anime, I can look up the meaning of individual Japanese words.
