- Rated 5 out of 5by Firefox user 12651610, 7 years agoJust perfect: this addon allows to download streaming videos after "native app" install, even if installing an app unrecognized by Windows is a little frightening ;-(
Many thanks to the dev team.Developer response

Native application installer contains only converter with libraries needed for support streaming videos. - Rated 5 out of 5by Firefox user 13521187, 7 years agoI just wanted to rate 5 because even though the vid size is not indicated, the resolution is, and it's all I need. I'll be patient through this little setback, i'm still thankful we can download vids from tabs at all!

We are continuing to work to return the habitual AVD look and functionality as much as it possible in new Firefox. - Rated 2 out of 5by Michael, 7 years agoWhat happened to this add-on? This was my "go-to" app when I was ripping videos from YouTube.

posted 7 years agoPlease note that this is first based on beta version and it is still under development. Please read more about new AVD here: https://support.ant.com/hc/en-us/articles/115005568983-About-the-new-Ant-Video-Downloader-3-0 - Rated 4 out of 5by Firefox user 13477582, 7 years ago
- Rated 3 out of 5by Firefox user 13337644, 7 years agoWe all knew that Firefox 57 would stop using the old addons that we liked so much. Users can either revert to an earlier version of Firefox and use the old ant downloader OR move forward to the one Ant has introduced for Firefox 57. I have both versions of Firefox and can see why people prefer the old ant downloader, but hey at least there is a version for Firefox 57 that works on most sights. You are not being charged for using the program. If you can find a better downloader on the internet for Firefox 57 then use it and stop complaining. The new Ant downloader works in my opinion better than any other downloader extension on the internet for Firefox. Give some encouragement to the developers of the Ant downloader rather than throwing your toys out of the pram !

We are continuing to work to return the habitual AVD look and functionality as much as it possible in new Firefox. - Rated 1 out of 5by Doug, 7 years agoThis new update is terrible, opens a separate page for dl's that doesn't give size etc. says it needs to dl a program that is harmful to PC... This used to be the best.. Sad

Native application installer used for communication with browser extension, configuration files and required dependency libraries. Plese read more about new AVD here: https://support.ant.com/hc/en-us/articles/115005568983-About-the-new-Ant-Video-Downloader-3-0 - Rated 5 out of 5by Firefox user 13514294, 7 years agoUpdate:
THANK YOU! THANK YOU! THANK YOU!
For making the Mozilla 56 compatible version of ANT available as a legacy (and for turning off it's auto-update feature (nice touch)) Some of us will keep Mozilla 56/and Legacy Ant on our old laptops indefinitely (just because its so darn convenient to use)
Any time you make significant changes to ANT (particularly if it's not 100% functional) you may well want to keep the older one available at (https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/video-downloader-player/versions/.) Infact, like Mozilla, you may just want to keep all major legacy versions on there- but with a big warning- letting folks know of their security risks.
You guys make a great product. And it's very very easy to habituate to it. (all my gym time I use with youtube vids downloaded thru you guys) The best (hands down imho)--- That's why any significant changes (esp if its not very functional when released will greatly disaffect some of your many fans.
Keep up the great work.
Thank you againDeveloper response
posted 7 years agoUnfortunately old AVD version 2.4.7.50 is not supported by Firefox 57 and beyond anymore.
You still can install old AVD version in Firefox 56 and below here: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/video-downloader-player/versions/ Developer response

Now it requires you to install a Windows program and grant far too many privacy rights for my taste. I guess we will have to uninstall it and find another one.
I would recommend to stay away from this extension until (if) is fixed again.
2017-11-28 UPDATE:
After having read detailed explanation (https://support.ant.com/hc/en-us/articles/115005568983-About-the-new-Ant-Video-Downloader-3-0) I regret my previous harsh comment and thus I have increased my rating.
I will keep checking for new versions of Ant, and I have trust that the ease of use of the older version will be restored soon. Please ignore my previous comment.Developer response
posted 7 years agoPlease note that old AVD is no longer supported, because Mozilla Firefox dropped support of legacy add-ons.

It suggests downloading and installing a separate program to the hard drive in order to make it work.
I used this add-on for years and loved it but this new build just doesn't work for me.
There are a few video downloaders that now require an *.msi installer for it to work.with the new Firefox update but I've found a downloader which works fine with no additional program needed.
Unfortunately i might have to migrate away from this.Developer response

For those who thinks is suspicious the way this add on should be installed, you have nothing to worry about, I am using this for years, everything is clean. Great Add On! - Rated 1 out of 5by Firefox user 13509864, 7 years agoNotice that when you try to install how it says it can completely molest your entire computer. Monitor all your traffic, get all your site data, blah blah blah.
HAHA now it wants to install a standalone program using a MS installer MSI !!!
No thanks, I'm not going to install this virus on my machine.
Okay so I finally broke down and actually installed it. It's absolutely terrible. The interface is impossible to understand and it totally unusable. Now when I click on a video or sound to DL it opens up another page filled with links of things I can DL but they're all repeats of the same thing and it's impossible to tell what you're actually DLing.
THIS IS THE PERFECT EXAMPLE OF "BETTER" BEING THE ENEMY OF GOOD!Developer response

It used to be the best video downloader. Now you have to install a separate program via a Microsoft installer. Guess I won't be using it anymore.
