For a very long time I've recommended this add-on to the people I know, but lately there's been a change that adds a QR code overlaid on top of the downloaded video. The QR code only shows up on videos where the option to download is an ADP variant. The only option to get rid of the QR code on ADP variants is to buy a license. Holding a certain feature as paid-only is debatable, but for me I could accept it in a way. I do understand that so long as the main functionality of the add-on is not hindered, adding a paid-feature that's purely extra and bonus could be a good incentive for people to fund the add-on.
That normally wouldn't be an issue but after recent updates I was really concerned to see that the only download options that came up were the ADP variants which require purchase. I don't mind a paid option, but the fact that the entire add-on seemed to remove functionality from itself unless you paid for it was startling.
There is an option in the configuration settings that allow you to check "Hide ADP variants", and perhaps that may have fixed it. I was really worried that the add-on wouldn't allow one to download anything un-QR-coded without payment. More experimentation is needed to see if there's always going to be an MP4 download option as the add-on functioned just as before.
I'm writing this review to state that I was got a good scare from this recent update, but so long as the add-on retains full-functionality for free users I'll remain viewing things in good faith. Once again, I can understand creating incentives for funding, but to withhold functionality that was openly available before ransom would've scared me. I've been meaning to donate money before I even knew there was an ADP variant license available because I honestly have been a heavy user of this nifty add-on for a while, but haven't done so because I'm currently pretty lean financially. I'm just hoping that this add-on will remain in good faith towards everybody.
