- Rated 2 out of 5by Quaxo, 7 years agoUPDATE: After over 2 years of using VDH on macOS, I find that not enough attention has been paid to making it run well on the Mac platform, especially in YouTube. It can be difficult to tell whether or not you are downloading the audio or video portion. You'll have to pay $30 to get your videos aggregated (audio and video combined) or else take extra steps after download to combine the audio and video. And then it will also have a QR Code image in the top right corner! If you download from YouTube a lot, then there is a better extension for you [Easy YouTube Downloader] that will download the video aggregated (with audio and video together) in one click at 720p (high quality) for free.
Original Review:
VDH 7.2 works well on Firefox 58.0.2 running on macOS Sierra 10.12.6.. Although not every feature has returned to the Web Extension from its legacy days. But the developers are working on it! Most features you would use are available. Mig, the author, is very responsive on the forums when he is not busy programming to update and fix issues. He has a positive attitude, is good-natured, and is genuinely trying to get the best version of this web extension to us as fast as he can. Please be patient and don't abuse him as he gets VDH on track. I found that some of my issues were not VDH's fault but rather caused by the tracker blocking features of the new Firefox. For me everything has worked very well except downloading some DASH videos that would not aggregate. This issue has improved with the frequent new releases of the Web Extension as mig copes with the restrictions on the code created by Firefox Quantum. This Web Extension is a job well-done and I recommend it. - Rated 2 out of 5by Firefox user 13814382, 7 years agoIt only works sometimes with the download button in the bottom left hand corner. The other download button has gone and sometimes re-appears for downloads from my email. I have an error message going on about running an Administrator account with elevated privileges, what BS is that? Says IDM has no sufficient access rights to show Download panel inside its windows (error code 5). Talks about unchecking a box in the administrator part of the browser. How am I supposed to do that, its got nothing to do with me?
Anyway, I'm guessing its because I have the trial version as I never had any problems with the bought version I had before. I would purchase IDM but now I'm not sure if it will work. Can you confirm that the paid one works? Or fix this free one. Thanks B Ross - Rated 2 out of 5by dbrode1, 7 years agoIt used to work pretty well. Now it fails as often as it downloads. And you can't see where it's saving the video when you go to Tools - Downloads. And it frequently changes the default download folder on its own.
- Rated 2 out of 5by Firefox user 13780701, 7 years agoI've been a big fan of Video Download Helper for a while now... until version 7.1.2. Now over half my downloads fail and what doesn't takes twice as long using the "Companion App".

- Rated 2 out of 5by Matt Marrazzo, 7 years agoDownloaded VDH, and when I went to install, Firefox warned me of the permissions this program requires - ugh!
Looks like spyware.
I aborted install. - Rated 2 out of 5by Firefox user 13611314, 7 years ago

- Rated 2 out of 5by Firefox user 13704381, 7 years agoI'm fed up with the specific problem of Firefox allowing addons to open a tab and switch to it. When I do an important task, fill out an administrative form, telecommuting, upload a video on Youtube, capture a whole page, in short any task that needs to stay on the page for a long time, it's not at all time to be switched to an update tab, for example, from an addon who abuses this function without way to disable it! Thanks Firefox for not disabling this feature! Another thing, this addon, useful in the past, does not download any video on important sites like Facebook, Youtube (which obliges to install an unknown software to download a video), ... I uninstalled this addon!
- Rated 2 out of 5by MargaretBartley, 7 years agoHalf the time it doesn't work. I never know what it is going to display. I don't see any controls for it, I don't see where the options are for it, Today, instead of a text box prompting me for the location of the file to download, I get a full browser page that is empty, with the works" Video Download Helper" in the upper left. No clue what is going on.
grrr
I gave it two stars, because sometimes it works as it is supposed to. About 1/2 to 2/3 of the time it works. OK. - Rated 2 out of 5by Firefox user 13693817, 7 years ago
- Rated 2 out of 5by Néocray, 7 years agoThis used to be a good extension.
However, it is now required to purchase a companion app to download HD flux without watermark. - Rated 2 out of 5by Firefox user 13690779, 7 years agoWar mal gut jetzt nicht mehr.Früher konnte man mit einem "klick" ein You Tube Viedeo herunterladen.Jetzt muß man noch zusätzliche Tools hinzu laden.Nein, wird entfernt.Oder ist das nur bei Windows 10 ?

- Rated 2 out of 5by Firefox user 13679666, 7 years agoI have been a VDH user for many years. Most of that time, I have had great results. However, since the use of the VDH Companion App has become necessary, I have encountered new problems, not sure if they have been reported on the forum because most of my search questions get no results. The problem is that this VDH Companion App causes, and has done so many times now, all 4 of my iMac computer cores to come on And my fan speeds to almost max out. 1796 and higher. How do I know this VDH Companion App is causing this for sure? I used Activity Monitor to find out. Once I used Activity Monitor to shut down VDH Companion App, my core use went back to normal and my fan speed dropped to normal. I had to use Activity Monitor to Shut down the VDH Companion App because I could not figure out how to do it otherwise and it was Continuing to run, even after I had Quit Firefox. How is this even possible? No apparent way to shut it off. Another issue is that there is no easy or clear way to contact the developer that I can find. I tried, again, searching on the Firefox Support forum on the VDH page, but Nothing comes up. I can't find a way to get feedback or questions to the developer. Apparently, there is a way, because I see that people post, but I can't find it. Why is there no direct link or email feedback form posted? Most of my other FF Add-Ons have a direct way, like an email link, that I can use to contact them. I see that many people have posted issues with the VDH Companion App as well.
