- Rated 3 out of 5by Firefox user 13187081, 7 years agoThis was my experience a few hours ago: I am giving this 2 stars because it used to be a great app. However since FF57 there have been nothing but problems. This morning I was told to load the latest Companion App (version 1.0.8) which I did, and now nothing works. It either flashes the Save-As screen and disappears, or it brings up the top part of the Download the Companion App screen again but does not display the rest of it and goes no further.
Since then, I have deleted VDH and its Companion App, rebooted my machine (Windows 64bit) and re-installed both. Even though the version numbers and file sizes are the same as before, now it is working about 60% of the time. I often have to try it several times, and use the options that appear to the right of the simple download. So perhaps back up to 3 stars. - Rated 3 out of 5by Firefox user 13497823, 7 years agoI used to love this app, but it seems to have stopped working in Firefox. It downloads empty files. The Chrome version still works, but it is not as good as the Firefox version used to be. Hope this gets fixed.
Update 2023. Long gone are the days when this would easily download everything, even if you have purchased the premium version. If you want to download anything in 4K you are plum out of luck because it just does not work. - Rated 3 out of 5by Firefox user 13504633, 7 years agoI am a teacher, so I frequently need to show my students several videos and, as Mozilla is my browser, I discovered Video DownloadHelper - so easy, so simple and so effective.
I can no longer work without this tool. - Rated 3 out of 5by Firefox user 13511435, 7 years agoMakes you download extra stuff outside the addon. It still works, somewhat, but seems safe ... so far.

- Rated 3 out of 5by Firefox user 13499799, 7 years agoI'm well aware of version 7 not yet working properly on FireFox 57. That is not the problem here. I have version 6.3.3 installed on FireFox 56. Updates are switched completely off. It worked fine until the middle of the night a few days ago. It finished the current download, then suddenly disappeared and the animated icon will not come back regardless of any setting. It has simply ceased to function, and not coincident to any "quantum" related update/upgrade, or any update/upgrade at all whatsoever. It has become painfully obvious that you are connecting to the program behind our backs in a manner you have not previously disclosed. There's no valid reason for it to suddenly stop working when no updates/upgrades have even occurred.... Killswitch much? Of course you do.

- Rated 3 out of 5by Firefox user 13468659, 7 years agoI have tried this addon for Youtube. It works for 720p videos. But to download 1080p video, you need a separate companion app. Because for 1080p, Youtube uses separate streaming for audio and video. But to download 1080p without any watermark, you need license. Otherwise, you will see a large QR code image in your downloaded video. It should be clearly specified in the addon description.
- Rated 3 out of 5by Firefox user 11538830, 7 years agoStill downloads without issue as long as you don't try converting videos. There are better programs for this.
My issue is that it's not this huge bubbly menu now with no option to change it. It also now doesn't remember the last download location. Huge pain when you try to keep things organized and the folder you want things in is several menus down. - Rated 3 out of 5by Firefox user 13458392, 7 years agoYou can no longer specify the default download destination.
"Use this acrion as default" is not working.
Since this is a wonderful add-on, I hope that these will be fixed. - Rated 3 out of 5by Firefox user 13456064, 7 years ago
