- Rated 5 out of 5by Firefox user 12903943, 7 years agoGreat add-on, my constant companion for years. But with the latest Firefox changes, 2 of its most useful (to me) features - CSS > Display Style Information and Information > View document size - are gone. Workaround! What I did was: a) Downloaded and installed Waterfox (I have v.55), then (b) installed in Waterfox an older version of Webdeveloper from the URL Chris gave: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/web-developer/versions/ I got Version 1.2.13. (c) Make sure you set Waterfox updates to "let you choose whether to install them" and set the webdeveloper add-on to "Automatic updates: off", otherwise you might launch Waterfox one day and find you've got webdeveloper 2. Adding an add-on to Waterfox is the same as for Firefox - you'll get a message saying "add to Firefox", but if you're doing it from Waterfox, it adds it to Waterfox. All of this is just to keep "the old webdeveloper" working, cannot vouch for it being safe.
Oh and... be careful. Waterfox just advised me to update to the new "responsive design" module (or whatever), which I did. And webdeveloper lost half of its tricks. Will have to restore the system, I guess. - Rated 3 out of 5by Firefox user 13465837, 7 years agoi just installed some new firefox (unwanted and unasked) version 56 it is now, and for some reason the "web developer toolbar" is no longer a toolbar, but an icon that holds a million subicons. i HATE that. how can i get the "web developer toolbar" to be a TOOLBAR again?
UPDATE: i changed my rating to 3 stars. i understand its not your fault, but still, this addon is useless to me this way. i would have appreciated it more, if it were a number of separate icons, that i can arrange in my toolbar to "recreate" the original toolbar. perhaps that is something you want to consider...
somehow, firefox manages to get crappier with every new version. whenever i update this PieceASheet, all my plugins stop working and the whole thing falls apart. great work, firefoxers.Developer response
posted 7 years agoThe new version of Firefox no longer allows extensions to create toolbars so that is no longer possible and not something that I control. Older versions of the extension are available here, but note that they are not supported and will not work in future versions of Firefox:
https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/web-developer/versions/
UPDATE: Firefox also doesn't let me create a number of separate icons unless I do so as separate extensions so that is also not an option for me. - Rated 1 out of 5by Firefox user 13465535, 7 years agoThis new version is totally useless for me. I need the tool "Display style information" back. Also this change made the whole Firefox totally useless for me. Where I could download the old version of the developer toolbar and old version of Firefox. This is really important and freezes all my work. Used to be 5 star extension, now 1 star. All I can do is star a uninstall process of Firefox browsers from all our school computers and searching a new tool. Sad end for such a great browser.

posted 7 years agoThe ‘Display Style Information’ feature had to be removed as Firefox removed the APIs that it was using. The best replacement for this feature is the CSS inspector built into the browser developer tools:

How I can remove the web developer tool complete with all settings and restore the basic settings again.Developer response
posted 7 years agoYou can downgrade to Firefox 56 and reinstall the 1.2.13 version of Web Developer from here to change any of the old built-in browser settings:
https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/web-developer/versions/
Or you can use about:config to reset the javascript.enabled preference:
https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/about-config-editor-firefox
Or you can create a new profile, but that will remove all your settings including bookmarks etc:

Now, with the current version (2.0.1) we're stuck with them in specific locations and it makes it nearly impossible for me to use this addon with my job.

posted 7 years agoFirefox no longer allows extensions to do this so there is nothing I can do to fix this on my end. - Rated 3 out of 5by OthelloBloke, 7 years agoI desperately need the 'View Style Information' option back.
I don't use the word desperately lightly. Help me. I can't find it.Developer response

The "Disable tab" (javascript, cookies...) has disappeared, it is no longer translated in French, and the inclusion as a toolbar and/or a contextual menu was much better (test window 800px wide) and I lost my "Resize" settings
I want my favorite Web Developer tool come back !Developer response
posted 7 years agoFirefox no longer provides the APIs that powered the disable functionality so all of those features had to be removed. I have asked for those APIs to be restored, but until that happens there is nothing that I can do.
Localizations also work completely differently in the new Firefox so they need to be completely rewritten, but that is something that I hope to restore in a future release with the support of the translators.
The new Firefox no longer allows extensions to create toolbars and has limited options for context menu support so again there is nothing that I can do on my end to work around these new limitations. - Rated 5 out of 5by ZelTroN-2k3, 7 years ago
- Rated 4 out of 5by Николай Егоров , 7 years agoGood extension, but... After a page reload all "outline" settings are reset. Too bad, because you can't use to work with LiveReload (for example, BrowserSync) functions in html layout pages.
Is possible fix this? - Rated 5 out of 5by Greg, 7 years agoHow to get back the toolbar below personnal bar on top of window please ?

posted 7 years agoFirefox no longer allows extensions to create toolbars so this is unfortunately not possible and out of my control. - Rated 2 out of 5by Firefox user 13457655, 7 years agoChris,
Can I get some place to download the old extension? I'm locked on an old version of FF for work purposes, and preferred the old add-on to this newer one. The newer one is useless now with the new architecture (not your fault), but I'd hate to give up such a great add-on because Mozilla fucked us over.Developer response

- Rated 4 out of 5by Firefox user 13454481, 7 years agoHi Chris,
When I set the resize dimensions the way I want them they seem to automatically get reset a few days later. What can I do to prevent this from happening?
I use this add-on almost daily. It's very useful.

posted 7 years agoThis is not currently possible, but I'll look into adding this in a future release. - Rated 5 out of 5by parvez ahmed, 7 years agolike it,but now, have some problem.firefox 55.03 version not showing properly
- Rated 1 out of 5by glewe, 7 years agoWhat a shame. The new release is practically unusable. No Menubar, no Display Style Information. I understand that this is not the developers fault but the changed Firefox API. I will sadly have to let it go after so many years now and get used to the built in developer tools. Too bad.

- Rated 4 out of 5by Firefox user 13399046, 7 years agoI like it, but there is something wrong since I update to Firefox 57.
Everytime I open Firefox, the windows with the "you successfully install Web Developer" come back... I find it a little boring, how can I stop it ??Developer response
