The Webchiver extension works in conjunction with a web service in order to allow you to make long-term archives of pages and content they find in the web. Use of the extension either requires creating an account at Webchiver.com (run by us at Stallion Software LLC) or requires you setting up your own self-hosted server.
The Webchiver extension collects the following information:
- (Optionally) The URL of a self-hosted server
- An API key to connect to the server
- The content and metadata of the web page the you are viewing when you explicitly click the button to open the extension.
- A video on the web page, when you click the "save video" button in the extension popup
- Any metadata (tags, title), you enters in the extension popup
If you use our Webchiver.com service, all this information is sent and saved to our service at Webchiver.com. If you are self-hosting, then the information is sent to their self-hosted server.
The Webchiver extension also has a web request filter enabled that listens for two things: 1) m3u playtlists for videos being streamed 2) headers and endpoints for calling the Twitter API. We store this information the brower's session storage only: we never send it back to the server, we never permanently persist it. We only use this information to allow you to save streaming videos and to allow you to save entire Twitter threads. This is to enable the feature to of being able to archive whatever web content you choose.
