- Rated 5 out of 5by 309dr, 11 days agoworks well for player.vimeo, seems to be the only one that works for this type of url, pause and resume download function supported which is incredibly nice, lovey for downloading low quality because I am always running out of storage space, and most other downloaders will allow large file size or 480p and up, which is not what I want. 240p and 144p would be even better, since I just want to see a general picture of what is going on, but detail is not really important. Would be nice if it opened in new tab, instead of new window. would also be nice to see file size and video time length. 5 stars because it gets the job done. It's slow but it it's trusty. Set it and forget it, then download.

The addon works, but very slowly. We're talking about anywhere between 15 minutes to literal hours, depending on what you're doing. That's because developers download the video from youtube to their own server first, convert it to the desired format, and then offer you to download the converted video from their server. Their server is probably hosted on a free tier of a hosting service (ads pay close to nothing, and donations are also close to nothing).
If that's where the problematic things ended, I'd give 4 stars ... despite downloads being ultra slow.
But there's some things that range from 'mildly' to 'wildly' problematic.
* This extension says 'Yotube downloader' on the store page, but 'Youtube downloader plus' once installed.
* Interface presented in the screenshots is nowhere close to the actual UI. Screenshots show download menu being contained in the extension's context menu. In reality, extension opens a popup window.
* The extension doesn't mention that for youtube, 'video' download options only download video without audio. While hardly surprising to anyone who knows how youtube works, I don't think it passes the grandma test.
* Video download options offer 1440p and 4K options even on videos that are available only in 1080p or lower, and offer no clarification on what happens if video isn't available in 1440p/4k. Do you get the next biggest video? Do you get 1080p converted to 4K?
* The UI does not differentiate between native audio formats (for youtube: m4a, aac, opus), and the formats that need to be converted to.
* Downloading audio-only in youtube native formats worked (opus).
* Converting youtube videos to mp3 didn't work.
and, saving the most problematic one for the last:
* when you download the converted video, the extension opens a new tab to a site that uBlock Origin labels as "badware".Developer response
posted 19 days agoThank you for your detailed feedback! We appreciate you taking the time to share your thoughts, and I’m glad to address your concerns.
Slow Downloads: We understand that the download speed was an issue in the past. However, we have updated the extension, and it should now download videos much faster with no significant wait times. We encourage you to give it another try!
Extension Name: We recognize the confusion regarding the name discrepancy between the store page and the installed version. We're working to ensure consistency in naming to avoid further confusion.
UI Screenshots: We apologize for the mismatch between the screenshots and the actual user interface. As we regularly update the extension to improve user experience, we may not always update the screenshots immediately. However, we are actively working on enhancing the visuals to better reflect the current UI.
Video Download Options: We appreciate your feedback regarding the video download options. To clarify, if a video is not available in the selected resolution (e.g., 1440p or 4K), the extension will automatically download the highest available resolution below that, ensuring you receive the best quality possible.
Audio Formats: We acknowledge the lack of differentiation between native audio formats and the formats that require conversion. We're actively working on improving the user interface to make this clearer.
Audio-Only Downloads: It's great to hear that downloading audio in native formats (like Opus) worked for you!
MP3 Conversion Issues: We're aware that converting YouTube videos to MP3 has had its challenges. The recent updates have addressed these issues, and it should work smoothly now.
New Tab Warning: Regarding the warning from uBlock Origin, we are committed to ensuring that all downloads are safe and secure. We're reviewing this to make sure our extension complies with all security standards.
We appreciate your patience as we continue to improve the extension. Please give the updated version a try, and let us know if you encounter any more issues or have further questions. Your feedback is invaluable in helping us enhance the user experience!
