Harvésort: A YouTube Search Tool by Zagrom

Harvésort restores control in YouTube search results. It doesn't just search YouTube; it harvests it, sorts it's metadata and filters it locally. YouTube sort-by-date filter is gone, but this can replicate it and more.

About this extension
This is now Harvésort; formally called YT:Sort By Date. The previous method of this add-on was broken by YouTube changes, so I put together something BIGGER.

YouTube’s search has changed, and it's not getting better. Harvésort is an extension built to try and restore some control. It doesn't just search YouTube; it harvests it. On demand in day-by-day style searching and serves it back to you, the user.
  • Allows filtering searched results in real time during searches for metrics that matter to you: Age of video, Views, Length, Sub counts (for channel searches), Video count (for playlists).
  • Results are projected back into YouTube's UI for an integrated experience.
  • Supports exporting/importing your search results to save or share search results.
  • Has dark mode
  • And more...

A tool for casual users wishing to restore some functionality, users wishing to find new or niche content, and power users wanting to get the most out of every search.

How it works:
Everything this tool does is handled locally on your computer. It is utilizing YouTube's api calls that are used anytime you use its service to collect and temporarily store the same information YouTube is using to show you results normally; the difference is Harvésort collects results from different chunks of time using date search filters (before:YYYY-MM-DD and after:YYYY-MM-DD) automatically for you. The results are used to build a local database of results that we can then filter ourselves using the metadata YouTube easily provides. You can easily see what data is stored for this database with this using the export tool for the results and see in the json. And this database is cleared anytime you do a new search right now. You do not even ned a YouTube account to use this extension.

Some future features I might try adding later if this doesn't break in a week or two:
- A more context aware filtering, most likely just using title names
- A way to save searches or settings you commonly use
- A history tab for a select number of your past searches and their results
- Maybe a toggle for the mouse-over auto play

Some notes on expectations:
- This tool currently has no way to filter exactly what you are looking for. It still utilizes YouTubes basic search behaviors and currently has no way to detect results that are not clearly related. Even if you use "quotations" in your search you are still likely to get some noise results. I am considering adding some kind of filter to look at titles to do some word matching based on the search terms or some other details to improve this if anyone other then me uses the tool to help clean up results from this kind of noise.
  • When searching, the order you have selected (Newest vs Oldest) matters in terms of what results are looked for first. If set to newest it will search for results in chunks closer to today and work back; if set to oldest it will start from oldest and work forward. So expect results to jump around accordingly as it populates results.
  • This was made for use on desktop browsers using fairly up to date Firefox browsers. I have no idea how this will run on mobile, smaller screen resolutions or other atypical setups. So far it has only been used and tested by me so does not have extensive quality control. If you experience issues please let me know and provide details on what exactly is not working.
