A pop-up from Firefox' toolbar lets you shorten a URL. It shows you which URL will be shortened. You may provide a preferred keyword for the short URL (if enabled in the preferences). The short URL can easily be copied to your clipboard.The context menu offers an entry to shorten the active page. Selected text will be nominated as a keyword for the short URL.Right-clicking a link offers a menu item to shorten the link's target. Thus, not the active page will be shortened, but the page that is linked to!Preferences of the extension. Provide the URL to the YOURLS instance and a signature and you're ready to go! Optionally, you may provide keywords for every shortening, and you can automatically copy the short URL to clipboard.Select some text in the current tab to use it as a suggested keyword. You can still change it before pressing 'shorten' to submit it to the YOURLS instance.

YOURLS is free software to create short URLs for websites. It can be installed and run by everyone!

This extension eases the shortening of URLs from Firefox. It integrates into the UI (toolbar button and context menu) and communicates with your own or a public YOURLS instance.

Permissions:
  • Access data for all web sites: The extension needs access to the current website to get the URL and potentially selected text (for keyword suggestions), and the extension needs to access any other URL to communicated with private YOURLS instances.
  • Input data to the clipboard: The extension is able to copy the shortened URL to clipboard (can be configured in the extension's preferences)
