- Wurdearring: 4 fan 5troch celtic-knot, 6 jierren lynThank you! I'm another for whom DeskCut was essential, and for whom QuickCut will become an essential replacement.
Like some other reviewers, I have had times when it does nothing, doesn't create anything. Like them, that's a problem: you don't want to have to constantly monitor whether it's worked or not. So I've tried to dig to investigate the problem:
A typical problem would be saving a QuickCut of an individual tweet. And here's where I think the problem comes. QuickCut uses the page title as a filename; twitter uses the tweet content as the page title; the content can contain up to 280 chars, including ones that are invalid. QuickCut seems to be okay at stripping out invalid characters, but not at stripping back excess characters. If you use the 'Save As' screen you can strip them back manually and it works. But if you set it to automatically save to default folder, it treats it as an invalid filename and does nothing.
So could it - by default or as a preference - limit the length of the title, as that would seem to solve the problem? (If relevant, this is on Linux)
I really want it to just work in the background as DeskCut did...
Thank you again for your work on this.Antwurd ûntwikkeler
5 jierren lyn pleatstHey, thanks for the review, you're completely right, the length of the filename being too long was something I overlooked when I made this extension, I just uploaded a new version that fixes these issues. Hope it works for you and others. - Wurdearring: 5 fan 5troch Firefox-brûker 15143939, 6 jierren lyn

- Wurdearring: 5 fan 5troch chdavisjr1949, 6 jierren lynI've been using your QuickCut for a long time. Now, after updating FireFox, it has been disabled and blocked from being installed. I hope that you are working on making it meet Mozilla's rquirements. As far as I was concerned, it was the best app of its type for FF.
- Wurdearring: 4 fan 5troch Firefox-brûker 10924416, 6 jierren lynThanks for this. Long time user of Deskcut so glad to have this. One question - whenever I open a URL a dialog box asks me if I want to open this file. Is there a way to avoid this and open the URL directly?
- Wurdearring: 3 fan 5troch Firefox-brûker 13754403, 6 jierren lynI have set Mozilla to save to the desktop as default and also to prompt for location, so I get a dialog box that allows me to edit the url and location.
If I save without editing the name the link works with no warning. The security warning appears only after i rename the shortcut.
The file save dialog box should default to *.url as opposed to *.*
Not clear why I can not edit the saved URL but can edit the ones I drag to the desktop. Not yet clear if it's useful if I loose the favicon and need to accept the security warnings. Rather a bit more work to set up something I will frequently use to work and display right. - Wurdearring: 5 fan 5troch S, 6 jierren lyn
- Wurdearring: 2 fan 5troch Firefox-brûker 14474305, 6 jierren lynis that so hard to add "save location" and edit "name edit before save" option? or you could not how to coding that?
- Wurdearring: 4 fan 5troch Firefox-brûker 13958119, 6 jierren lynThank you for this add-on. Please add option to save to desktop directly and also to use same site name.
- Wurdearring: 2 fan 5troch Firefox-brûker 14305353, 7 jierren lynQuickCut is very good but for one thing. Once I save a link, every time I use it from the context menu, I always get a Security worning from one of my anti-malware programs, Either Firefox Bit Defender. Microsoft Security Essentials or MalwareBytes. The only two options I have are to cdancel or open. There is no [checkbox] Don't shw me this again. The Security warning tells me that the file type is unknown. It looks like a Microsoft object. Having to futz with this every time is annoying and dies detract because of the PITA factor. A good 4 stars that should be 5
- Wurdearring: 5 fan 5troch eryui, 7 jierren lynI was used to deskcut but it doesn't work anymore. That one was a little better because in the setting you could save the path without the app requested it every time. I mean was an option to not have a popup window every time. Not a great deal but one click less. Anyway I am happy I found this one, those kind of apps should really be integrated to Firefox. I know you could drag&drop but at full screen is not always convenient. So, thanks!
- Wurdearring: 3 fan 5troch Firefox-brûker 13982633, 7 jierren lynIt works perfectly well, all the times, every time with every site.
Problem, it doesn't show the site favicon.icon on the Desktop, it shows Firefox boring url shortcut icon on all of its desktop shortcuts, so if you have 25 URL shortcuts on your desktop and everyday you delete and add few here and there, you can see it becomes very problematic. You can't figure out which shortcut belongs to which site without highlighting it or clicking on it or activating it, a total waste of time.
P.S. The older DeskCut has same problem, it doesn't preserve the site favicon, only SaveLink works to perfection but alas not compatible with Firefox Quantum. - Wurdearring: 3 fan 5troch Firefox-brûker 13952351, 7 jierren lynThe options for this extension should include a default folder (like, I don't know: the desktop !!).
Starting to sound familiar?
What's the problem with adding it to the right-click menu?
- Rick - Wurdearring: 5 fan 5troch Firefox-brûker 9789270, 7 jierren lynThank you for working on this add-on. I was used to SaveLink but this might be the way to go for Quantum. As a minor critique I would like to put forward the same point as your second reviewer: The security dialogue when clicking on a saved link is a little bit annoying. Can this be fixed ? For the rest no problems at all. Very good and needed extension !
Update: I don't understand why AVGFree Antivirus considers since october 2018 QC as a browser add-on with a bad reputation (two stars).Antwurd ûntwikkeler
7 jierren lyn pleatstUnfortunately this isn't something that can be fixed through the extension. In windows, when you download a file in Windows, it will label it as "downloaded from the internet". To disable this, see: https://winaero.com/blog/disable-downloaded-files-from-being-blocked-in-windows-10/
I really do wish I could do more to fix this. Thanks for the review. - Wurdearring: 5 fan 5troch Shogun, 7 jierren lynWorks seamlessly in the background. LIke another user I would really like the option of choosing desktop for urls without having to download everything else there.
Thanks guys..Great app! - Wurdearring: 5 fan 5troch andario2007, 7 jierren lynUPDATE: You fixed it!
If it helps, I tested the previous version disabling every single addon and it still didn´t work on amazon.com, mobile.de, elpais.com and other hugely popular sites. I´m using FF 58.0.2 x64 and it works now for every site I´ve encountered so far, including the aforementioned.
And pretty great about the icon BTW, it´s much faster than right click+scroll down menu+click QuickCut, and therefore an actual improvement over the good'ol DeskCut.
Thanks, Mr. Developer!
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Promising, but utterly unreliable.
Like someone else said before, it doesn´t work on Amazon, and it doesn´t work either on MANY other sites, for whatever reason, not giving you an error message or anything. It just doesn´t to anything at all.
As such, you just cannot TRUST it, you have to monitor your download icon or something like that to make sure you have actually saved something, or you risk losing it, so it´s not only unreliable, but actually stressful.
Anyway, I just disabled it until the next update. And if it ever works properly, I´ll update my rating, of course.
Thanks.Antwurd ûntwikkeler
7 jierren lyn pleatstHello, thank you for your review. I find it strange that it doesn't work for you on Amazon, since I have no problems saving Amazon links (just tried it). I personally use this extension myself and haven't had any problems so far. Could you tell me what other websites are causing problems for you? Also, what Firefox version are you using?
EDIT: Please try the new changes and report back. I updated the extension with a fix (and some new small features)
EDIT: Thanks for the feedback! Glad it's working well for you. - Wurdearring: 4 fan 5troch Firefox-brûker 13779362, 7 jierren lynLockeLamora:
Is there any way to have the link to go directly to the desktop and bypass the Save-As window?
Other than that it works great!Antwurd ûntwikkeler
7 jierren lyn pleatstYou can bypass the confirmation windows by changing your Files and Applications settings to "Save files to" and then choose "Desktop". Do keep in mind that this will save all your downloads to desktop.
Unfortunately it is only possible for the extension to save files relative to the download directory. I am planning on creating a setting that will allow users to choose download folders relative to the download directory. This folder can then be redirected to another folder using a symbolic link. - Wurdearring: 5 fan 5troch Firefox-brûker 13518380, 7 jierren lynGood work! I've searched long for this.
URLs are saved as "Internet Zone"-Files and a security dialog has to be confirmed during opening them. It would be easier to save them as "Trusted Sites Zone"-URL.
It doesn't work with every site. For example 'amazon.com' doesn't create a shortcut.
