I thankfully found this extension after Dictionary Anywhere V1 stopped working for me. It seems to work exactly the same as the original, just still maintained.

A fantastic tool for checking word definitions without opening another tab. It's very lightweight and unintrusive, I use it all of the time and would recommend !
