This addon is really close to be perfect. Easy, intuitive, sleek. It works like a charm and suits my needs quite well.
However one thing I need seems to be missing: synchronization. When I move my bookmarks to the Private Bookmarks folder, they are not longer available on my other machines.
I would like to see an option to sync my private bookmarks, just as any others. Maybe save the encrypted bookmarks in the firefox account? When accessing them from another machine, the password should match to open them.
There is already some import/export mechanism, but I need automatic sync. Still for a version of 0.0.12 this is really good stuff.

Thanks for the feedback! An option to opt-in for syncing is a feature that is definitely on my radar. Unfortunately, the tools Firefox makes available to extension developers impose a size limit on the amount of data that can be synced, and also do not make any promises regarding sync speed and frequency. At this moment these drawbacks prevent me from implementing this feature.

P.S. Please do not rate down an add-on based on things it doesn't claim to do. Add-ons should be judged based on what they do claim to do and how well they do it.     Works great until it forgets your password. I thought I was being pranked but naw it will just tell you your password is wrong after a random amount of time. There is no way to recover encrypted bookmarks either.

    Doesn't work with the latest firefox. No folder created. There is a purple star on the extensions tab but you can't even click on it.

    Very simple extension. Works well for me on Firefox 135.0 as of February 2025. It would be nice to be able to customize the location of the Private Bookmarks folder (mainly so the "Other Bookmarks" folder doesn't get involved), but that's super minor.

    exactly the same problem as many people here. The app is excellent until the password doesn't work and you lost all your bookmarks. For me, it's the second time and I quite.

    It's mentionned that you have to make regulary backup but bookmarks are not enough critical to setup a professionnel backup process, we don't want to worry about backup.

    It works until it doesn't. I found exactly the same as many other reviewers: this add-on has a lot of great features, and it works well... until it doesn't. The Private Bookmarks password fails to work after some time. Twice I used this add-on to save bookmarks... and twice, for no apparent reason, the password is no longer remembered by the extension, so I can't unlock these bookmarks. With that, the bookmarks are gone forever. This is a great concept that unfortunately fails at a critical point.

    It worked great for months until it didn't.

    I'm not sure what broke it but possibly my MacOS upgrade to 14.6. Suddenly Firefox wouldn't respond to the Shift-Option-8 hotkey, which is where you enter your password.

    I tried reinstalling the add-on, rebooting, etc. Unfortunately, it's evident that I also lost all those private bookmarks in the process, which weren't so much private but archived in Private Bookmarks so they wouldn't be accidentally deleted.

    I filed a bug report with the developer last week but I haven't received an acknowledgement of it and the bug hasn't been assigned.

    This stopped working after the latest FF update. Password does not unlock bookmarks. Broken and abandoned extension by the dev.

    I have used this addon for 4-5 years without a hazzle. But this morning it stopped accepted my password.

    Luckily I make weekly backups of the mozilla folder so I still have access to my hidden links by restoring the latest backup with a working password.

    So I will recommend doing backups in case the password suddenly fails.
