This app allows one to transition between different alphabets in a novel way, and, for the japanese alphabet in particular, is very efficient. Disclaimer: the app only works for certain websites, those that use 'input' and 'textarea' HTML-elements for their textual-UI. The good news is that this means that languageBeast works for most search engine and translation engine web-apps.
