For some reasons the button leads to 'enhanced reader' instead of the import popup. Am I missing anything here?

Hi Guan. Clicking the extension icon in the toolbar will always launch the import popup. Clicking the 'View PDF' widget will always launch the Enhanced Reader (you can add to Mendeley from there too).
