I have been working on putting all of my financial data (both historical and current) into kMyMoney (an opensource app similar to Quicken/MS Money). I had been struggling to find a program that could extract the data from a PDF file and put into CSV format so I could import into kMyMoney. When that failed, I started looking at browser extensions that would work with the financial data displayed directly from the web page. Because of the personal financial information, I did NOT want to upload any data to 3rd party website for processing. I tried over a dozen apps and browser add-ons before I came across TableCapture. When I first tried it, it didn't seem to work because I couldn't find the icon to to launch the Table Capture add on. I messaged the author, and within 30 minutes, he responded with an answer (on a Sunday no less). He told me that the icon was placed at the end of the URL bar and not in the typical location with all of the other add-ons. With in minutes of his response, I was able to copy all of the data into the clipboard and paste it into an editor in tab separated format. (The paid version supports CSV and XLS format). But I was able to easily remove all of the commas in the data (used to indicate thousands in number), then replace the tab characters (using \t) to commas, and voila, I had my financial data in CSV format!

    Depending on the target page and the data structure one tries to extact it can sometimes be helpful. Also it often fails to produce any usable output (=usable output doesn't require intensice data cleaning afterwards that a selfscripted solution is the better approach in the first place).

    BUT:
    Google Analytics is running in the background, periodical license checks (there are better ways to solve this), uninstall tracking, XHR-monitoring...

    So much about no trackers claims.

    Hi! George here. I develop Table Capture.

    - Google analytics isn't installed. You may have been seeing some references to "ga" in the code, but it hasn't been used for a few years. Also, when it was used, it was used to instrument the app, which is to say to allow me to know if extension buttons were pressed, features are used.
    - Checking licenses periodically is completely banal
    - Uninstall tracking: This allows me to show a form when you uninstall that asks for feedback. It's how I learn what's not working and improve the extension.
    - "XHR Monitoring" - you're likely looking at an attempt to help users extract their data at the request level. There's nothing nefarious there.

    I stand by the quality and safety of the app. My only goal is to improve it and ultimately to sell more Pro licenses.

    Works for me. Copies to clipboard a table that otherwise fails to be loaded using Excel's 'Get Data From Web' function.

    i edited the xpi file to bypass this

    fix:

    rename foxcapture@georgemike.com.xpi to foxcapture@georgemike.com.zip and extract it
    cd foxcapture@georgemike.com
    cd js
    find . -type f -exec sed -i 's/this\.userConfig_\.paidPro/true/g' {} +
    then compress it to a .zip and rename it to foxcapture@georgemike.com.xpi again and double click it

    This tool is a life saver and allows for easy data extraction in seconds while preserving neat and clean formatting. $12 a year is a steal and well worth it. I've used for paged tables and dynamic tables. While it's simple to use, sometimes you have to play with the features to get it to capture how you want it. If it's not capturing a table, the data might not actually be in a table on the webpage, which is not the fault of the add-on. I find this add-on way easier, faster, and better at its purpose than Excel's 'Get Data>From Web' function.

    This extension makes it significantly easier to further process tables from websites. It's user-friendly and saves me a lot of time, as I no longer have to manually enter the information – which also prevents errors. So far, all the tables I wanted to use have been fully recognized and transferred to Excel and other programs.

    This extension is indispensible for what I do - constantly using: not only saving time, but allowing me to do things that otherwise wouldn't be possible. Excellent bang for buck!

    This extension worked perfectly for the hard to get tables that my other extensions wouldn't touch. Auto-scrolling for live generation tables is a dream. I spoke with mike and he was responsive (nearly instantly). Worth the $ in my case!

    Does exactly what it says, which is what I needed. It solved the challenge of extracting data out of my CRM into Excel where they don't have a native export function.

    After mucking around trying to copy data manually, using it just once already saved me more time than the purchase price - worth the Pro upgrade!

    requires payment for CSV. use "Copy table data to clipboard" to get a TSV, which you can convert to CSV

    It's true. $12/year for CSV/Excel exports and multi-page capture with auto-paging.

    Think about how much your time is worth though...

    I just paid for Pro, but am kind of frustrated because I can't find where (in either Options or Manage) to insert the activation code.

    I bought the Pro to capture tables for a project I was working on and really didn't think I'd use much of it afterward, but to my surprise, this has become my most frequently used tool on my browser, and I use it almost every day.

    It's worth the price. I need to use it rarely but when I do, instead of painfully copy data manually from those hateful scrolling tables, I use the auto-scroll function of this add-on and, so far, it has worked every time wonderfully. Thanks!
