READ THIS FOR TAB URL RECOVERY: It's a pretty fantastic Add-On, exactly what I always had designed in my mind, thinking I'd have to be the one to develop it. But it tends to lose the URL of SOME of the suspended tabs, which makes it extremely difficult to keep using. (I'm running Firefox Quantum 61.0.1 on Win 7). There is a hack/workaround for getting the URLs back though for anyone interested. Just right click on the tab that lost the URL, and click Duplicate, and a properly duplicated tab will appear at the original URL. Also, it seems like this add-on is doing some extra funky stuff with the firefox memory config to help keep the memory low, but whatever the reason it is breaking pages that aren't inactive or suspended. As best I can tell the pages seem to be losing their cached memory states, causing them to need to be reloaded.

It automatically puts inactive tabs to sleep, freeing up memory and reducing CPU use without closing anything. When I switch back, the tab just reloads right where I left off. It’s super lightweight, easy to use, and works quietly in the background. Perfect for people who keep lots of tabs open but don’t want their computer to slow down. Simple, effective, and really useful.

- Been a Firefox user since it was an alpha release. I've never written a review for any extension until now. This extension made Firefox on Ubuntu usable for me again. I typically have several tabs opened at all time. After 12 or so, Firefox would become nearly unusable, particularly if any videos began playing in those tabs. Auto Tab Discard has made it to where I can have several dozen tabs open and everything runs fine. To the developer, thank you so much for this.
One thing I will point out is that the name is a bit misleading - No tabs appear to be discarded, thrown away, or deleted. They are just put in a suspended state and removed from active memory. At one time, I thought Firefox had a feature like this built in however, if that still exists, it no longer works very well. Auto Tab Discard is an absolute must for me now. - Valutata 5 su 5di Michael Rabinovsky, 3 mesi faI think the description says it all, but I'll add that the benefits of this addon are immense, and it is amazing to me that it isn't built into the browser. This addon turned my old laptop from unusable to nice to browse on. In addition, as a heavy tabber with hundreds of tabs open, it allows me to run more memory-intensive software on my desktop without closing my browser.
- Valutata 5 su 5di Utente Firefox 17564609, 3 mesi faIt appears that the AI-powered tab grouping of Firefox keeps this extension from being effective.
You need to turn off 'Use AI to suggest tabs and a name for tab groups' in Settings > General.
The extension discards tabs more than Tab Unloading, a function of Firefox and is more flexible.
I still needs it. - Valutata 5 su 5di Utente Firefox 18241146, 3 mesi fa
