di Utente Firefox 12627353, 7 anni faThis addon does what is advertised, and does it well.
However, I had to remove it. I suspect the functionality that discards irrelevant content is to blame:
When using Wikipedia, >any< article on Wikipedia, the Table of Contents would appear only so long as the page is still loading. The moment it's done loading, the Table of Contents disappears, the article is displayed as though it had never been there.
Since Wikipedia is one of my most frequently used bits of internet, this made Pericles worthless for me.
I originally encountered the problem in Waterfox 56.2.5, BUT it replicates perfectly in Firefox 64.0. That is to say, tables of contents on Wikipedia disappear in Firefox when Pericles is installed, too.
Two stars, because it does the text-to-speech well, but no more than two because it does not handle recognizing irrelevant content well.

- A lot of the old reviews are super old, like from years ago old, the current build of this extension is exactly what I am looking for, sometimes the highlighter does drag a bit behind, but it still does exactly what I need it too without any confusing stuff
and for that, I absolutely love it! - Valutata 1 su 5di Utente Firefox 19085795, 3 mesi faDoesn't always read every element on the page. Sometimes it initiates itself without any input from me, and I can't make it stop.

Also, it has a really helpful selecting text feature. - Valutata 2 su 5di Utente Firefox 18679715, un anno faWhile it does well not to read every bit of text on the screen like headers and links, it tends to skip major paragraphs and/or become un-synced with what is being highlighted. changing any of the settings restarts the sentence, but since it's down in a ticking scale you HAVE to listen to that each tick.
- Valutata 3 su 5di ThatWildWolf, 2 anni faGiving three stars because it works but no more because of the poor customisation options. Overall it's good for visually impaired people.

- Valutata 1 su 5di Israel Roldan, 3 anni faBasically, it does nothing. I think that it didn't install the voices because I don't listen to any voices. I am on Firefox – Arch Linux – Kernel 6.1.12 – x86_64.
- I can hear it make sound, and it sounds somewhat robotic, but it's not terrible. It was slow to translate the text on the screen, and it ultimately crashed my computer, so I'm uninstalling it. A language translator with built-in text-to-speech abilities will probably suit me better.
- When this screen reader works, it's incredible. I like being able to customize the speech function and clicking where I want the reader to begin. It's intuitive and not riddled with features that convolute the product.
Unfortunately, I run into a lot of times where the addon doesn't begin reading, and will just load and load in a continuous loop of "Loading Audio". This isn't on any particular instance, seems random on random websites. Sometimes it works, and other times it does not. I have also had instances of stopping reading and then resuming a few minutes later - and having the addon resort to non functioning again.
I often have to supplement with a bulky software program that allows similar functions, but is much more difficult to use. - Works great! I have ADHD, so reading through websites is often difficult for me. Having text read out loud to me so that I can read along (or hell, listen to it in the background) is very handy.
I think it would be great if more "reading" websites had native TTS, but that's not a reality yet, so Pericles is a great replacement :-)
(Also, for all your reading-along needs, Pericles lets you change the speed of the narrator, which is awesome.) - Valutata 1 su 5di Utente Firefox 15431286, 3 anni fa

- Valutata 1 su 5di Utente Firefox 16290478, 4 anni fathis one works but requires too many permissions, it feels to be insecure.
- Can be a good help to have a web page read to you, but still limited and with many bugs. Most annoyingly, it seems to treat soft hyphens as word delimiters and split words in the middle if it encounters one. Also falls back to English if it encounters an unknown word, which means my (rather technical) German page is littered with English pronounciations even though these words also exist in German. Still: three stars for being a mostly useful, free accessibility tool - with potential for further improvements :-)
