I ran into an issue: additional voices weren’t working in Firefox, even though I really like Amazon Russian (Maxim). Interestingly, everything worked fine in Google Chrome. I managed to fix it by changing the Firefox language to English and reinstalling the extension. After that, the extension’s name changed from Russian text to "Read Aloud: A Text to Speech Voice Reader," and the Google login window, which wouldn’t open before, finally worked—I was able to sign in.

By the way, the link in the Russian version didn’t work, but it might work if you replace %D0%B2%D0%BE%D0%B9%D1%82%D0%B8 with sign in the Russian localization. I don’t need this anymore, but someone else might want to give it a try. Overall, I haven’t found a more convenient TTS tool—this extension is great, but it’s a pity there’s no text highlighting; that would make it even better.

Just tremendous. Once you get over the hump of configuring it (you want to select a piper-based voice) this text to speech reader for web context is simply superior to anything else I have tried.

Great if you are looking for a megaphone emoji for your toolbar. Useless if you are looking for a TTS that is understandable. Also, doesn't even consistently work.

So hard to believe that in 2025 this is the best we can do for TTS? Has not improved in 20+ years. Embarrassing.

Quite good; for Firefox you'll have to dig-in and choose the non-robotic voices, i.e. google Translate XX or Amazon / MS premium voices.
The UI could be improved, for example highlight directly what is read on the page, in complement to the popup.

what a shame voice in 2025... better hitting to a metal can...
