I ran into an issue: additional voices weren’t working in Firefox, even though I really like Amazon Russian (Maxim). Interestingly, everything worked fine in Google Chrome. I managed to fix it by changing the Firefox language to English and reinstalling the extension. After that, the extension’s name changed from Russian text to "Read Aloud: A Text to Speech Voice Reader," and the Google login window, which wouldn’t open before, finally worked—I was able to sign in.

By the way, the link in the Russian version didn’t work, but it might work if you replace %D0%B2%D0%BE%D0%B9%D1%82%D0%B8 with sign in the Russian localization. I don’t need this anymore, but someone else might want to give it a try. Overall, I haven’t found a more convenient TTS tool—this extension is great, but it’s a pity there’s no text highlighting; that would make it even better.

I can no longer use the extension. The same error always occurs when I want to have a text read out to me, the text is not read out with the Google Translate voice. Even the update from 07.05.2025 has not fixed this problem. I was always enthusiastic about this extension, but I have been thinking about deleting it from Firefox since the beginning of 2025.

i wish you could use microsoft azure voice AI. it has such wonderful voices.

Ich kenne und schätze die App schon seit Jahren und haben nun die Firefox Erweiterung entdeckt. Einfach nur großartig und sehr zu empfehlen. Ich habe mir eine gute Stimme ausgesucht und mache perfekte Hörerfahrungen. Danke!

Just tremendous. Once you get over the hump of configuring it (you want to select a piper-based voice) this text to speech reader for web context is simply superior to anything else I have tried.

Was GREAT until a few days ago. Still works fine for regular pages but no longer working for pdf. Skips lines, stops after a couple of pages and if restarted, starts from some page way before. Does not advance the pages of pdf, like it used to. etc, etc. Please go back to the working version.
2 weeks later - even thou release notes say fixed, it still skips lines, seems even worse than before. Unusable in a PDF.

Great if you are looking for a megaphone emoji for your toolbar. Useless if you are looking for a TTS that is understandable. Also, doesn't even consistently work.

So hard to believe that in 2025 this is the best we can do for TTS? Has not improved in 20+ years. Embarrassing.
