ClipWiki Privacy Policy
Last Updated: August 12, 2025
Introduction
ClipWiki is a browser extension developed by Barry Gardner that allows users to clip web content and organize it into a personal wiki. This Privacy Policy explains how ClipWiki handles your data, including what information is collected, how it is used, and how it is stored.
Data Collection
ClipWiki collects and processes the following data:
Clipped Content: Webpage content (text, images, URLs, and titles) that you choose to clip is stored locally on your device using IndexedDB. This data is not transmitted to any external servers.
License Key for Pro Version: If you use the Pro version, ClipWiki sends your provided license key and the product ID to Gumroad’s API to validate your subscription. No other personal information is sent during this process.
Settings: User preferences, such as the current book selection and dark mode setting, are stored locally in IndexedDB.
Data Usage
Clipped Content: Used solely to display and manage your clips within the extension, as per its core functionality (e.g., viewing, organizing, and exporting clips).
License Key: Used to verify your Pro version status with Gumroad’s API. This ensures access to premium features like book management, search, and export.
Settings: Used to customize your experience (e.g., applying dark mode or remembering your selected book).
Data Storage
All clipped content and settings are stored locally on your device using IndexedDB. No data is stored on external servers controlled by ClipWiki or its developer. The license key is sent to Gumroad’s API during validation but is not stored externally by ClipWiki beyond local storage for reuse.
Data Sharing
ClipWiki does not share your clipped content or settings with any third parties, except for the license key sent to Gumroad’s API for validation. Gumroad’s handling of the license key is governed by their privacy policy (available at https://gumroad.com/privacy).
Data Security
Clipped content is stored locally and protected by your device’s security measures.
The license key is transmitted securely to Gumroad’s API over HTTPS.
ClipWiki uses Purify (purify.min.js) to sanitize clipped content, reducing the risk of malicious code execution.
User Control
You have full control over your data:
Delete Clips: Use the "Delete" button in the extension to remove individual clips or entire books.
Export Data: Pro users can export books as HTML files using the "Export" feature.
Clear Data: You can clear all data by uninstalling the extension, which removes all IndexedDB data.
Third-Party Services
Gumroad: Used for license validation of the Pro version. Refer to Gumroad’s privacy policy for details on their data handling.
No Analytics: ClipWiki does not use analytics or tracking services.

ClipWiki requires the following permissions:
<all_urls>: To clip content from any webpage you visit.
activeTab, tabs, scripting: To access and clip content from the active webpage.
contextMenus: To provide the “Clip to Wiki” option in the right-click menu.
