Great idea, but it would be much better with the use of search engines configured in a browser, not addon's built-in.

Certainly, some users may want this feature but i will not add it. There are some reasons...

1. Firefox does not allow extensions reading the setting. It is one of personal settings.
2. I do not want to read personal settings. Because I think extensions should avoid reading personal settings as possible as it can.

I am really glad to get your feedback because nobody had reviewed this extension until you reviewed. It took a year ;_;. Thank you.

really wonderful extension - surprised this isnt more popular! Just wish I could disable some of the built-in search engines

Certainly, it should be better. I will try implementing it later.

Edit:
Sorry but I have decided not to implement the feature because disabling some search engines confuse some features(e.g. searching by the shortcut).

Little but excellent addon! Please make the search engine displays as mobile view (responsive without vertical scrollbar). Thank you so much!

Sadly there is no options to open search engines as a mobile layout because search engines decide how displaying the layout. We will be happier if they added the option :D
