Sidebar for Proton Pass puts your Proton Pass vault into the native Firefox sidebar, so your passwords are always one click away - without ever leaving the page you're working on.
A single click on the toolbar icon toggles the sidebar open and closed. That's all there is to it.
Features
• Opens pass.proton.me directly in the Firefox sidebar.
• One-click toggle from the toolbar.
• Uses your existing Firefox login session - if you are signed in to Proton in a normal tab, you are also signed in inside the sidebar.
• Lightweight: just a manifest, a tiny background script, and a redirect page. No trackers, no analytics, no remote code.
• No data collection. The extension does not read, store, or transmit anything.
• Works alongside Proton's own web app - it does not modify or intercept Proton Pass in any way.
Why use it?
The official Proton Pass extension is great, but it lives in a small popup that closes the moment you click somewhere else. This extension takes a different approach: it docks the full Proton Pass web app into the Firefox sidebar, so you can keep it open next to the page you're filling in, drag items around, search your vault, and read notes - all without losing your place.
About the Proton Pass "vault unlock"
Your Proton login is remembered between sessions through normal Firefox cookies, so you usually don't have to sign in again. However, Proton Pass also has a separate "vault unlock" step. The decryption key for your vault lives only in the memory of the sidebar page, so when you close the sidebar that key is gone and you have to unlock the vault again the next time you open it. This is by design (zero-knowledge encryption) and no third-party extension can change it.
If you don't want to keep unlocking, you can change this inside Proton Pass itself:
Avatar → Settings → Security → "Unlock with" → "None".
You will then stay signed in and your vault will stay unlocked as long as you are signed in to your Proton account in Firefox.
Permissions
This extension requests no host permissions and collects no data. It only uses the Firefox sidebar API to display pass.proton.me, and a keyboard shortcut to toggle it.
Compatibility
Firefox 115 or newer. The sidebar API used here is Firefox-specific, so this extension does not work in Chrome or Edge.
