Privacy Policy for Smart Text Actions

This Privacy Policy describes how the "Smart Text Actions" browser add-on ("the Add-on") handles your information. Your privacy is critically important to us.

1. Data Collection and Storage:

The Smart Text Actions add-on is designed to operate locally within your browser environment.

What we collect: The Add-on collects and stores specific data related to your highlighting activities:

Selected Text: The actual text you choose to highlight.

Page URL: The web address (URL) of the page where the text was highlighted.

Highlight Position Data (XPath & Offset): Technical information (XPath, start offset, and length) that allows the Add-on to correctly re-apply your highlights when you revisit a page.

How it's stored: All the aforementioned data is stored locally within your browser's storage (browser.storage.local). This means your data remains on your device and is not transmitted to any external servers, third parties, or to us (the developers).

1. No Transmission of Data:

The Smart Text Actions add-on does not collect, transmit, or share any of your data (including selected text, URLs, or highlight positions) with the developers, any third-party servers, or any external services.

All processing of your selected text (e.g., for search, translation, copy) and screenshot operations is performed directly by your browser using standard browser APIs, without sending data externally through our add-on.

Since your data is stored locally on your device, its security is primarily governed by the security of your browser and your device.

We utilize standard browser API for local storage, which is subject to the security measures implemented by your browser (e.g., Firefox's internal storage mechanisms).

1. Data Control and Deletion:

You have full control over your stored data.

Deletion per page: You can clear all highlights for a specific page using the "Clear Page Highlights" button within the Add-on's floating tooltip on that page.

Global Deletion: You can delete all highlights saved by the Add-on across all pages by accessing your browser's extension settings (e.g., in Firefox, go to about:addons, find "Smart Text Actions", click "..." or "Options", and look for storage/data management options, or consider adding a global "Clear All Highlights" button in a future version's options page).

Add-on Removal: Uninstalling the Smart Text Actions add-on from your browser will typically remove all locally stored data associated with it.

1. Changes to This Privacy Policy:

We may update our Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of any changes by posting the new Privacy Policy within the add-on's listing page (e.g., on AMO) or through other appropriate channels. You are advised to review this Privacy Policy periodically for any changes.
