Wallabag is an adequate substitute for Pocket, being fully open source, and with the ability to self host it if you don't want to trust the two main hosted instances.
It's not quite as slick as Pocket, but I find that goes for many, otherwise perfectly usable, open source equivalents for commercial products and services. What let's it down though it the complexity of configuring the add-on with your account credentials.
The instructions could be clearer as to what to do exactly when you have an account with
1) framabag.org
2) wallabag.it
3) self hosted
While self hosting is beyond the skills of ordinary users, many users of the aforementioned hosted instances still won't have a clue what an API is or how to set up a client.
I could not give Wallabag and the Wallabagger add-on to my family and most of my friends, without having to do the configuration for them. With Pocket no such problem.
This is a pitfall of many open source products, many of which are created to scratch an itch for the developer, who by definition is technical enough to not need a user friendly UI.
As this add-on works well, once configured, I've only docked one star; more hand holding for novice users and a slicker presentation and overall experience is all that stops this from earning a fully 5 star rating.

- Yettwasezmel 5 ɣef 5sɣur Wesley Branton, 4ヶ月前

yeffeɣ-d deg 4ヶ月前Hi there, Firefox for Android changed the way we have to make it works. It's working as expected on Firefox Desktop. One star for an extension you didn't use is kind of rough though. - Similar to Pocket, but you can (optionally) host your own server. Less polished, but it does the job, making it easy to save the current page to read later, with optional tagging in the save dialog.
And it can save the content from the page you're viewing now, which is helpful for sites with login walls.
Setup is a bit clunky, but you only need to do it once. - Yettwasezmel 5 ɣef 5sɣur Aseqdac Firefox 18511224, 1年前

yeffeɣ-d deg 1年前Thanks a lot for your feedback. I created an issue for this feature request: https://github.com/wallabag/wallabagger/issues/409- Yettwasezmel 4 ɣef 5sɣur Aseqdac Firefox 13875318, 1年前

- I have the same issue as another reviewer. The addon installs and tries to check the URL I typed in, but "Wallabag URL checked" remains at "Not checked" although "Wallabag permission checked" changes to "Agreed."
Clicking the toolbar button throws an error, "api.GetTags().then is not a function."
Wallabag itself is working fine. I'm using a self-hosted Wallabag instance - Wallabag is hosted on my NAS which is on the same LAN as the machine running Firefox and the addon. I can access the Wallabag instance from my laptop and save articles with it, but the addon stops at the "Wallabag permission checked" step like described above, unfortunately :/ - Yettwasezmel 4 ɣef 5sɣur don_dolarson, 2年前So far works good, LibreWolf 116.0.2-1. Let's see how it behaves in long term. Registered, created API token, pasted everything needed in the extension and voila. Setup took less than 5 minutes. Easy peasy even for a noob.
The instruction in extension description is more than enough for setting it up using the wallabang instance. Tiririt n ineflayen
yeffeɣ-d deg 3年前Are you using a self-hosted instance or wallabag.it? Is it quicker directly through the interface?
Have a nice day.- Yettwasezmel 3 ɣef 5sɣur Aseqdac Firefox 16314216, 3年前Review after developer response:
The url provided in the developer's response fixed my issue, but this addon is still far, far too complex to set up for the average user.
Previous review:
These instructions don't make any sense if you're a paid subscriber. The firefox addon asks for a url, and none is provided in the instructions. I tried https://app.wallabag.it/ (since I'm a paid subscriber) and the options page still says 'url not checked' so I can't get this thing to work.Tiririt n ineflayen
yeffeɣ-d deg 3年前Hi there, sorry about that. You can fill in the URL with `app.wallabag.it` then click on the test button and authorize the access of this URL. Do you have any installed extension? Can you try it on a fresh Firefox profile? - Yettwasezmel 1 ɣef 5sɣur AndrewKantor, 3年前Can't get it to work with Firefox 107. It tries to check the URL (which is correct) but "Wallabag URL checked" remains at "Not checked" although "Wallabag permission checked" changes to "Agreed."
Clicking the toolbar button throws an error, "api.GetTags().then is not a function."
Meanwhile, Wallabag itself is working fine, so I don't think the problem is there.Tiririt n ineflayen
yeffeɣ-d deg 3年前Hi Andrew, I'm really sorry to ear that. Can you tell me what happen when you click on the "Test URL" button? Did you try to remove the extension and install it again? Are you using wallabag.it or a self-hosted instance?
Have a nice day, I hope I'll be able to help you. Tiririt n ineflayen
yeffeɣ-d deg 3年前Thanks a lot for this nice comment! Glad you like this extension. Have a nice day.- Wallabagger is a great extension that help making the most of a Wallabag instance. Once the initial setup done (which needs Wallabag login & password plus an API client ID & secret Key from your Wallabag instance), the extension works seamlessly.
Wallabagger has a great UI, and is very easy to use. A must have for all Wallabag users.
