The extension performs simplification via our own Cloudflare Worker (https://calmweb-worker.muratk-gsb.workers.dev). The worker receives the URL of the page the user is visiting, cleans the HTML server-side, and returns the result to the extension — this is the basis for the data_collection_permissions (browsingActivity) declaration in the manifest.
