As soon as there will be more transparent and honest alternative, people will stop using WOT, but for now they are essential service. They had a tradition of rarely selling ratings to scam sites and selling personal data, but still to check balance of good deeds vs harm they are noticeably on good side. But only until transparent alternative emerges (or they dramatically improve transparency and trustworthiness and protection against fake ratings of any kind).
And for sure have a compassion - area they work is extremly hard and full of people who want to exploit. Even Google is failing lately in a holy battle against spam.
