This is accurately checking the version, while the other Update Notifier plugin appears to no longer work.

Hi, thanks for the review. I'd actually forked that project initially but the the design requirement to load content_scripts convinced me to consider alternatives. This fork uses a different approach that makes direct connections to the GitLab API.
