av Ali S. Fakename, 4 år sidenIt kind of works... but it doesn't do what I want. I don't think it's something the creator can fix.
I have the same problem that a user SouthOkanagan reported in 2018, it won't allow URLs like https://www.google.com to be set at the new tab page.
The developer asked "Why would you want to do that ? You can search in the toolbar".
The reason I want to do this is because I **HATE** searching in the address bar at the top of the screen.
I want to have https://www.google.com appear whenever I open a new tab or window. I want the search to be focused in the centre of the screen, where my eyes are looking, not at the top of the screen.
It's crazy that Firefox doesn't have this as an option for new tabs anyway.
This add in is a great idea, but I can't use it for what I want... but that's:
a) Google's fault for not allowing embedding (though I can see why they do that to avoid some kind of "skinning" with keylogging or something
b) Even more so, it's firefox's fault for not having an option in the first place to set a custom URL for new tabs... sigh.

- Vurdert til 5 ut av 5av Ra Shoe, én måned sidenDoes exactly what I want it to do, I use this to make a "spacer" tab with my vertical tabs (since I have so many...), and I can set the title of the new tab to be a nice, visual "—————" instead of "about:newtab", which makes browsing through my long list of tabs much easier! Plus, the author's website at zen.mint.as looks super professional and works extremely well as a new tab page!

It is no exaggeration to say that there is a Firefox add-on market just for this. - Vurdert til 2 ut av 5av Firefox-bruker 12781457, 9 måneder sidenFirefox can't open this page
To protect your security, ..... doesn't allow Firefox to show the page if another website has embedded it. To view this page, you must open it in a new window. - Vurdert til 5 ut av 5av south, 9 måneder siden

- Vurdert til 5 ut av 5av dirkules, ett år sidenDoes exactly what I want, awesome! No URL that's prefilled, I can just start typing and still have my selfhosted dashboard when opening a New Tab 🫰
- Vurdert til 5 ut av 5av Cloud, ett år sidenMost other new tab overrides just redirect to the url. But this extension uses an iframe I think. Another plus is when loading the new tab page you can set it to be dark mode or light mode, so no more flashes of white when loading a page that is dark. Give em a star on github too -> https://github.com/MethodGrab/firefox-custom-new-tab-page

However, I'm so annoyed at Mozilla for making an addon to be necessary!!
It's so dumb that they don't let you change the NewTab url like they let you change your new window start page.
There is really NO reason for Mozilla NOT to off the ability to do so.
Well, I'm betting that it has to do with $$$ honestly. The default new tab page is all about Pocket and most of the default articles it gives you are to paid sites that Pocket (aka Mozilla) make money from.... soooooo, that is the ONLY reason why I can see them not offering.
Because lets face it, we open new tabs A LOT more then we do new windows. - Vurdert til 5 ut av 5av Firefox-bruker 18169319, ett år siden

- Vurdert til 5 ut av 5av John, 2 år sidenAfter hunting for an extension that allows you to use a custom url as a new tab this is IT!
All the other extensions don't clear the url bar when making a new tab. So when you start typing the characters are appended to the url bar contents, meaning you need to manually clear the url bar each time.
This one fixes that! I've struggled with it for a month now, and finally found this extension. Thanks MethodGrab! - Vurdert til 3 ut av 5av Vindikato, 2 år siden
