This extension is great for a busy student! It does exactly what I wanted it to do. I have a couple suggestions.

1) It would be cool if when I opened a bookmark (that I renamed), the newly opened tab would keep the name I gave the bookmark. For example: I have bookmarks for my online math class that redirect to a login screen before I can get to the "Lesson" I bookmarked. When I click the bookmark and get to the login screen, the tab is still called "L30" or whatever I named the bookmark. After logging in, though, the tab is always just renamed to the name of the website, which is too vague to work with if I want multiple tabs open, so I often use this extension to rename the tabs to something more specific. It would be awesome if this extension could rename my tab back to "L30" when it detects that the site renamed it. Maybe this feature idea is too specific for most people's workflows, but it would help me personally if I could designate tabs so they are not renamed until I leave the website.

The way this would probably work is automatically renaming the tab after the website renames it.

However, if you're browsing reddit or Twitter or something like that, you want the tab name to change with what you're looking at, so this feature should be optional and only work when 1) opening a bookmark, and/or 2) you're on a site that you have chosen in settings to activate this feature. (e.g. I only want this to happen on wamap.org, the website where I do my math class)

2) Also, the icons for Firefox built-in features are specific to the feature and not just a screenshot like this one (for example: "Print" icon looks like a printer). Here's an idea for what a better icon may look like, based on the "Synced Tabs" icon: Go to: imgur dot com slash Y6mMXEv

Thanks for making this cool extension, dev! I hope I can make an extension this useful one day.

    Wish it worked. Looks like Firefox blocks it now (2025). No extension icon, so even though it's loaded, there is no way to actually use it. Would be better to have it accessed in the right-click menu on a tab, but perhaps that's not possible.

    Not sure why this isn't a thing, but it would have been sooo much more convenient to be able to RC on a tab and select RENAME there.

    And also for the tab's name field to be blank when you open up the dialogue box, so you dont have to CTRL A and del each time

    I've just installed it and it works perfectly. It has keyboard shortcut which is awesome. Groovy!

    Unfortunately doesn't rename across the domain, or if you reload the page. Would recommend Tab Mix instead.

    Looked good at first - simple and easy. But my saved names aren't persisting - they're reverting back to defaults.

    Extension is easy to use, powerful thanks to the regex feature, and the instructions are thorough. My only problem with it is that it doesn't work for pdf files - but I've found this problem with other tab renaming extensions as well. Is changing the tab title of a pdf generally impossible in firefox?

    But I prefer to use this "Tab ReTitle".
    It’s more for my needs.

    I compared this addon with "Tab ReTitle" (https://addons.mozilla.org/de/firefox/addon/tab-retitle/?utm_source=addons.mozilla.org&utm_medium=referral&utm_content=search).

    This one is quite limited. The custom name is gone even if a small part of the URL changes (for example: you open a price comparison site and add another product). This way, it is not useful for me. The other addon "Tab ReTitle" has several options how persistent a new name should be.

    Please also add a Tabbar tab context menu option to rename title. I keep forgetting to look for this rename plugin among my millions of installed extensions :| + #ux :)

    This extension is exactly what I needed! My only issue is that I cannot rename a PDF. Is there a work around?

    Pretty good, but one little improvement would make a world of difference for me: Allowing back references in the regex "title" field would allow actual dynamic modification of titles. Example: Matching "\[PROJECT-([0-9]+)\] (.*)" with title "$1 $2" would allow automatic removal of redundant info at the start of the title of most of my issue tracker tabs.

    Works fine for static pages, but does not override pages changing their own titles.
